Will the Pell Grant disappear if the Department of Education is abolished?

This is America. Corporations are people, people are expendable and replaceable trash, and trash is our environment and landscape. Thank a rich person today!

It's not going away because of something being abolished, it's going away because it's running out of funds. I think by 2029 its coffers will have run dry.

States administered at the local level and then down to the individual school districts where most education decisions belong-local control. Don’t worry. The sky is not falling. Education in the US got better results before 1980. Why do people have such a short memory and no historical awareness?

Because 1980 was over 45 years ago. Most people that are concerned with this weren't even born or very young. I generally don't disagree with the thought process that the government needs a complete overhaul. There are too many agencies with overlapping responsibilities and authority that could use a good pruning. I disagree with the process in which it is being done.

That’s ridiculous. I was alive in 1980 and there is no way it was that long ago.

Pell Grants will just move back to HHS, which used to be called HEW.

So far, it’s been a lot of admittedly dangerous bark but way less bite. So far the real change has only concerned immigrants (not even permanent residents or those on visas, only those with no status or some bloated programs for certain countries) and also USAID employees. Most of it has been just chaos and uncertainty but little real change. this gives me hope that student aid, as well as public benefits that are used by american citizens will stay intact at least for this year.

No pell grants are going away. All these type of progressive programs are gone. They are trying to do away with 75% of the federal government but they are going to keep Pell grants?

Getting rid of the department of Education means eliminating 4,400 federal employees and 238 billion a year. You do not cut 75% of the government by just moving programs “around”.

These some of the programs are going away.
Pell Grants
Federal Work-Study
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant
Children with disabilities (IDEA)
Pandemic recovery
Early childhood education
Work assistance

Everyone should be saving for college on their own or take out loans. If those options are not sustainable applications to college would go down and so would the cost of college.

You realize what the college education cost outside the US is? Oxford/Cambridge is like: $12K a year, Germany it's free, University of Tokyo is $4500, IIT is a pack of cigarettes, McGill is $5900. And public education is a "handout"? And you think the American economy can compete with other countries when they subsidize their education?
