Would you resign with a job offer outside the government?

DH is standing on the roof of the embassy in Saigon and wondering whether he wants to ride in the helicopter?!

Get his head checked.

However, it's not something he'd consider normally bc of typical federal government stability.I want him to wait out this madness for a bit and see if things calm down. Federal retirement benefits are not something to throw away. But he's been miserable for a while and all of this junk since Trump took office is just reinforcing his misery.

What would you do in this situation?

As long as it doesn’t depend on a government contract either. I feel like anything completely outside of government money is a safe bet and worth leaving for. Anything that is dependent on any realm of the government or government contracts is not safe.

Has to be a troll. But well said, PP.

But in general my thinking is - if he was unhappy before the Trump morass, the fact that Trump wants him gone isn't enough of a reason to stay. I wouldn't leave to make Elon happy but I wouldn't stay where I'm unhappy to spite him either, ykwim?

This. I worry about leaving too soon and then realizing that a) this all ends and I am out of a stable job or b) I could've bargained for more to force me out. It's too soon to jump ship. I have too much time and income to lose, and based on the jobs I see, none come close to what I am currently making/benefits package.
