Competitive schools that were easy to get into for kids in our HS

Whitman wouldn't generate 50 apps to Dartmouth. And there is no chance Dartmouth would take 10 of them. Maybe 2 at most. Dartmouth is a tiny school. They are not taking double digits from a suburban Maryland public school.

I'm thinking this is a high performing public school in the Boston area. And the seniors there were clearly impacted by some groupthink to have so many apply to Dartmouth.

Colby College, 15 applied, 12 got in!! 80% when national acceptance is 8%
Darthmouth, 50 applied, 10 got in. 20% acceptance
Brown, 20 applied, 6 got in

Do some schools have high schools they just like more than others? This is a large public school.

Is this in one year?

I think it's probably more than one year.

I don’t believe any school would have those numbers for Dartmouth and if any did they’d have tons of other ivies too. This doesn’t make sense.

There are some amazing publics that do get a ton into ivies and specific ones pending location of school, but not this.

New Trier
Boston Latin
TJ
Stuyvesant

There are a number of competitive public schools in this country.

None of them would generate 50 apps to Dartmouth in one year, no.

If, as a PP speculated, this data represents several years, then it could be any of the above schools and many more.

TJ has about 50 apps to Dartmouth in one admissions cycle. Over 100 to HYPSM (each) and over 200 to Cornell. Over 100 to other T20s as well.

Without valid link, it is totally fabricated.

People do go where their friends have had luck.

Also sports.

How does Dartmouth get 50 apps and Brown 20? Is this a boarding school in New Hampshire? Usually interest in Dartmouth is a little more niche compared to Brown.

Dartmouth seems to really favor certain schools.

Our high school has better luck with HYP than Dartmouth.

The Ivies can be surprisingly regional.

Legacy probably keeps them more regional as well.

That's a lot of shotgunning.

Can you guys read? OP said it’s a large public school in the South. My guess is maybe a Nashville suburb.

50 Dartmouth apps? Not in one year, no. Over several years, who knows.

Many, many cities have specialized or high-SES public high schools that have a lot of apps to top schools, but not this many.
