Competitive schools that were easy to get into for kids in our HS

Anonymous
Our HS published a college report with the number of kids who applied and how many got in and there's some that shocked me.

Colby College, 15 applied, 12 got in!! 80% when national acceptance is 8%
Darthmouth, 50 applied, 10 got in. 20% acceptance
Brown, 20 applied, 6 got in

Do some schools have high schools they just like more than others? This is a large public school.

Colby is practically open enrollment if you apply ED, TO, and full pay. The overall acceptance rate is low in large part due to the UChicago/Tulane/Northeastern style spamming they do to drum up applications in the RD round.

Oof! Seeing U of C on the same list as places like Tulane and Northeastern makes me so sad. It used to be a place associated with exceptional intellectual curiosity … but on DCUM it’s known as a spam factory. I hope that’s not really the case …

Why does it say 8 percent acceptance?!
Is it because they get so many applications because it’s free? 8 percent is still low!

public school, large! In the south

Nah, the academics are about as strong as ever. Just the marketing is obnoxious to keep the lights on.

It's both.

Yes - some colleges just have schools that they like. Very common. But

18% of my kids’ private high school, not in DMV, got into Michigan EA this year, and that includes three Ross.

Those Brown and especially Dartmouth numbers are great!

UChicago had a quarter-Billion operating deficit last year.

No way your school has a 30% accept rate to Brown. If 50 applied to Dartmouth, I suspect the 20 applying to Brown is incorrect. Brown gets a lot more applicants than Dartmouth and this ratio seems way off. Unless, the high school is in Hanover.

How does Dartmouth get 50 apps and Brown 20? Is this a boarding school in New Hampshire? Usually interest in Dartmouth is a little more niche compared to Brown.
