In a couple of weeks we still start hearing they "cheated" lol. God forbid they have good engineers as well OMG that can't be.

Supposedly through channel checks, folks now believe DeepSeek amassed 50,000 Nvidia N100 chips before export controls kicked in, but they can't advertise any of that with their press release.

Each of those chips sells for $30,000/each, so that means they spent $1.5BN to actually develop it...with lots of $$$s from the Chinese government.

Yup. Don't believe $6M.

Lol it didn't take 2 weeks. My God only the USA has earth shattering engineers.

Right now, LLMs work through brute computing power. That's why it costs billions and why Invidia prints money. If they've figured out AI with out the first L of LLMs that's one of the biggest break throughs in the history of computer science let alone AI. It's not a matter of good engineers, it's reinventing AI to not rely on computing power. Call me skeptical

I don't know much about computing but assuming your logic is true then I doubt they figured out that first L. The reason I say so is because if they did them they would have called press conferences press releases interviews you name it

Nobody is saying they don't have great engineers...but it's no different if OpenAI only counted their programming costs for ChatGPT and conveniently left out the underlying HW costs. More accurately, if the US government provided OpenAI multi-billion $$ grants to acquire the computing chips, then OpenAI could reduce their spend by over 95%.

Should we believe anything the Chinese say? No. They probably did this on purpose to tank our market. Buy low when you can.

Deepseek is trained on the results of the bigger AI. Like a master training an apprentice. So, smaller footprint. It can be downloaded and run offline.

Good lord, NVIDIA? Prime for an epic crash due to its insane overvaluation. Google, FB, Apple, Microsoft And all of the FAANG crown jewels of the US stock market are going to get torched. This is .com crash 2.0. RIP tech jobs. US economy is about to get rocked.

nah deep seek is a actually incredibly bullish, it points to wards the path towards AGI which is achievable in a couple of years at most at this point. The innovation was basically an evolution of the neolithic survival of the fittest to now specialization of experts like small towns with bakers and blacksmiths, the next step is further specialization of resources like cities and states for more complex tasks like solving cancer or building space ships. We are like 1-2 years from AGI at most i think

People hating on OP but this was the first story on the morning news channels today.

The whole DeepSeek thing is a massive overreaction. Not that there were not stocks overvalued. Unlikely there will be any crash, any issues, or frankly over the next month or so you will see all the stocks back to prior level.

Many of us just invest in index funds for the long term and don’t check our portfolios regularly. I expect downturns and balanced my portfolio to a risk tolerance level I’m comfortable with based on my age. I don’t touch the investments and am not paying attention to bad days in the market. It’s cyclical. Trying to time the market is always a bad idea.

Stock market mentality is really stupid. I wouldn’t read anything into it long term.
