Different poster here. We've done spring break there. There's the Alamo, the other missions, Tower of the Americas which is near a cool playground, Market Square, and good food. The Saga light show is really cool. There's also a children's museum we didn't go to that I recently saw in a list of top children's museums. I'm sure there's more. |
San Antonio is boring. The Riverwalk is nice for an hour. I would prefer a weekend in Cleveland over San Antonio. Also, budget sounds tight- $2000. If you spend $1000 on flights, Ubers, hotel room, the money runs out fast. I’m team drive. That way you can actually enjoy your vacation. |
I haven’t checked, but I thought spring break was one of the most expensive times to fly to Puerto Rico Rico? |
Why do people keep saying the money will run out when she's said the $2000 is just for flight and hotel? She didn't say her budget is $0 for sightseeing/eating. |
PP, here. I stand corrected. I just checked flights. Fares to San Juan are very cheap, if you fly Frontier or Spirit. Just over $200 roundtrip. Southwest and United are more expensive- $500 - $600 roundtrip. |
You're planning a trip during peak travel (spring break) and fir only a few days (keep in mind you lose 1 day on each end).
So how many days? It doesn't seem worth the cost OR time to fly anywhere. You'll blow $2k on flights/rental car alone during that premium travel week. I'd go somewhere within driving distance - find a place like Busch Gardens, Hershey Park, or a 4-season ski resort (ziplining, many biking, lake activities) if you're budget truly is $2k . |
Look on Expedia for deals where you can get a flight + hotel package. You can often get great deals on the hotel. You'll likely have better luck flying somewhere that's a less typical spring break destination. Last year we planned a trip to Atlanta to visit friends instead of a beach trip.
For a driving vacation, renting a beach house large enough to share with another family can keep costs down. Also going to a beach far enough north that spring break isn't in-season pricing yet...so SC or NC beaches instead of GA or FL. |
The ocean is still too cold for swimming in NC or SC during Spring Break. You need to be in FL at the very least for the ocean to be swimmable. |
Philadelphia. You can drive, plenty of things to do/see...add a hotel with a pool and that's perfect for little kids. |
If OP is OK with Frontier or Spirit, Puerto Rico might be a great option? |
Where are you finding these fare? On Google flights, Frontier/Spirit are $400-$500 for the week of April 12-20th. |
Anyone like Dollywood? |
Drive to Florida, get airbnb and relax. Done and done under 2k |
we had a great spring break in Hilton Head when the kids were in elementary school. Driving is a must. there is putt putt, you can bike on the beach and take a boat ride out to that island to learn about Gullah culture. and just warm enough to be better than here. |
I simply cannot imagine PR would be $200 only but hey, if it is, do it ![]() I'm sorry but $2k for 3 people for a few days unfortunately does not get you very long/far/nice holiday anymore during summer. I mean, you'd have to find a location where it's 1. not popular 2. the flights are likely to be bad hours and/or 3. midweek. Flights within continental US are so $$$ these days. I would drive to the nicest/fun-est beach you can think of personally (and I fly all the time) from a value perspective. Keep in mind however, the hotels will be $$ there. In terms of staying somewhere - I always target Airbnb for the number of BR with my kids when we travel as a family. So instead of 2 rooms for the 4 of us, it's a lot easier staying in 2 BR of 1 house. Depends of course where you go. In June, I'd look at going south - maybe White Sands, TX, AZ. Again, go hot weather for cheaper flights cause nobody wants to go. New Orleans actually has really become quite a family oriented city off Latin Quarter and Vegas as well - a lot of interesting family thing to do off strip. NYC is also a place I think is really easy - there are 101 things to do and my kids and I have always loved the city and in summer, everyone leaves ![]() |
