Neighbors who never close their windows?

At night you can clearly see them looking out the windows or what they are doing. So all day their windows are always open without covers. I don't think I have seen any other neighbors that are this way and the only reason why it's weird to me is because I can catch them looking out their window and feel their gaze. Weird or no?

Maybe they are dutch?

Family has been here since before there was a USA. Only have blinds in the bathroom and bedroom. Enjoy looking out and seeing what is going on. Don’t really care if people look in. Also keeps the dog amused.

What is the correlation between immigrants and their window treatment choices? How about men and women, do men not have curtains or blinds or other window treatments and women do? Is it a connection between short people and tall people, fat and short? By race? Vegetarian vs non? By hair color? Whether they have a dog or not as someone pointed out dog can get amused. It could be a host of reasons.

I’ve lived in my house for 10 years and have 2 windows still w/o curtains and 1 room that only got them like 1-2 yr ago. The big one without is my kitchen window, which faces my back alley/back neighbors backyard. Sometimes when I’m washing dishes I see the woman across the street also washing dishes. They’re quite a ways away so it’s not like you can really make anything out. I guess it never really bothered me lol. I’m white and Dh is a second gen since that apparently matters.

Ditto. No window treatments at all. Couldn't care less if people look in.

There are two types of people (irrespective of immigrant status): those who prioritize light and those who prioritize privacy

More of a function of how much light they want in the house most of the day. At night it’s a function of heat or privacy or not caring.

Because they stare. It seems like my neighbors spend hours looking at the windows watching what we do. If we go outside, they are at the windows staring. If we are inside, they will stare from their window in to ours.

I am the OP and that resonates with me. It's almost like they want to be intimidating by keeping all their curtains open so we can see through their windows day and night and they are always staring outside it's so weird. I don't understand it being an immigrant then again my parents were never strivers. Too down to earth to be.

Plenty of light even when you close curtains blinds etc. how does using window coverings help during hot and cold seasons?

Although I’ve laughed out loud reading this entire thread my reaction to this is not as a joke - my immigrant SIL (Philippines) is lovely but had similar paranoias … I’m always telling her to chill out, they aren’t trying to be rude because it’s not rude to them (for example, she thinks anyone asking her
How work is going is a big pry into her life and they must be after something)

+1. Honestly, I think it's a little weird to always have blinds down/curtains closed in the main living area. Don't you want light and view? Why so secretive?

My ILs have nice wooden blinds and when it gets dark they run around closing them all, so concerned that someone might see into their formal living room where no one has ever sat. It’s so weird to me.

My ILs also make their alt a dark dungeon every night for tv time even through there is a 10’ tall hedges all over their back yard.

I think they do it so they don’t loose heat out the windows during the dark or night.

They also unplug the microwave each evening so they don’t play electricity for the digital clock being on at night.

Good times.
