Amherst and MIT fair enough but Yale is gorgeous. Surprised you feel this way unless you are factoring in New Haven? It’s actually my favorite of the top college campuses I’ve seen

I just don’t like American gothic architecture. It’s a personal preference, too drab.

Wow, I grew up in Pasadena and would regularly take visitors on tours of Caltech's campus and everyone loved the beautiful fountains and the arched walkways. It's the Spanish mission style, which I guess is not for everyone.

What do you expect from a group that thinks a center hall colonial is the utmost in home design?

MIT, including the insides of some of the buildings. The outskirts of Cornell’s campus are terrible but the A&S area is lovely with an incredible view so I think it’s really nice for undergrads staying on campus in that area. I like Stanford’s campus but I grew up in California so perhaps it’s an acquired taste.

I guess the view of the lake is nice but that was about it.

Cornell has parts that look like a state school. The setting is amazing though with a pond, waterfalls, and arboretum. Cayuga lake is also beautiful.

I remember the insides of some of the buildings at MIT when I was there....they were depressing and kind of creepy--do they still have those long drab hallways that seem to go on forever (especially if the building is empty)?

I don’t like it either, and I’ve been to most of the residential colleges! I prefer uchicago’s interpretation of Oxbridge design.

Incorrect. Cornell is a private university (all of it) with certain schools within it receiving a small amount of state funding which offsets a small portion of the tuition for NY state residents.

You also consider MIT a state school? Because they’re both land grant. NY gives a break to it’s residents where MA does not but one is as “public” as the other (aka not at all).

The library building’s exterior is especially terrible
