How competitive is your HS Girls Basketball

Girls basketball is too much of a contact sport for many girl athletes, also a fairly complicated sport to be good at. Participation rates have been dropping now that girls have more options like volleyball and tiktok. In my area only privates in NEPSAC have good teams, most public schools have maybe one good player if any.
My daughters are good AAU players just about to enter HS years and it feels like winter will be wasted if we stay playing for our public school, but our income is too big to get any decent aid from NEPSAC and not sure I am ready to board them yet. Supposedly NEPSAC gives a full ride to two or so top players, but not sure if my kids would be the top two in schools we like.

FCPS Varsity is competitive for most of the HS. Basketball teams are small and many show up for roster spots at tryouts. You need to have played AAU or be absurdly tall to make it. BB is technical and very few have the proper training.

Also for the poster above saying Private is the only way....not true. Go be a leader at your Public court. Maybe y'll get recruited.

What is absurdly tall for a girl in this context?

It really depends on the high school. My daughter made her JV/Varsity MCPS teams but doesn't play very much.

If she attended a different MCPS high school, she would have started.

There are 26 MCPS high schools. The top 8-9 or are a much better than the next tier, and bottom tier are the teams that look like some of their players have hardly played before.
