I love not having sidewalks!

Pedestrians can walk on the road. Roads were never meant for cars only. Bike, walk, scoot, skate on the road!

It depends on what traffic is like in the neighborhood. If you live in a residential area with zero through traffic, having no sidewalks can work fine because people just assume that there will be kids and people in the street and no one minds going slow or like driving around a family walking down the side of the road.

The problem is that very few neighborhoods are like this. Most neighborhoods have through streets, and even if you don't live on a through street, people now drive down adjacent roads all the time to get around traffic on the through street. Those people don't live in the neighborhood, don't care about the vibe of the neighborhood or the safety of people who live there (even the kids), and are often impatient and stupid.

Pedestrians can't safely walk on the road in the latter neighborhood, which is most neighborhoods. Thus: sidewalks.

+1 I've lived around here for 10 years. The amount of times I've had to shovel snow is a lot smaller than the amount of times my kids and I have walked, biked and played on the sidewalk. I love having a sidewalk. That was a deal breaker for me.

I'm the OP and I'm a lady who loves shovelingg snow too! But I like shovelling pristine driveway snow on my own time, not iced over stomped on sidewalk snow within 12 hours after the snow stops falling like my old HOA dictated

We have a snow blower for our sidewalk. It’s FANTASTIC! Does the job so quickly and easily, we do ours and our surrounding neighbors sidewalks. It’s fun and good exercise and good to get out in the sun and fresh air! Those of you without sidewalks, stay lazy and lame!

DW grew up further north, so she's eager to shovel any time it snows. Reminds her of her childhood home. I am happy to let her have that fun. We have a long sidewalk in front of our house!

Why were you selling it as good exercise. You walk at a half pace behind a loud ma hine doing all the work.
