This can only be true if you think things are more fun when buzzed.

To me, things are the same amount of fun when I'm buzzed. I just lose motor coordination and can't drive.
good for you.

Some like a buzz. Some like the taste. Some like both.

Bunch of Puritans in here.

Actually yes. I am descended from Puritans, a Women's Christian Temperance Union activist, and a severely alcoholic deadbeat dad (many generations ago).

That's not the flex you think it is.

Husband is opposed to it, although he knows our DS drinks when he goes out and at college.

Husband doesn't drink.

Thanks

How close to 20?

Absolute nonsense. Correlation is not causation.

Well, one can be embrace science or deny it. No law against it.

It is not illegal for parents to give alcohol to their children in their home.

My DD is 20 and I let her have wine with us at dinner. She's studying abroad next semester in Europe so she'll have it there too, and still be under 21!

So parents can give alcohol to under 10?

Yes.

I drink (maybe 2-4 drinks/month) and DH doesn't drink (but used to)

If DS (18 - freshman in college) wants to have a drink at home and he isn't driving, I am fine with that. I am not doing shots with my kid or shotgunning beers with him, but if he wants a drink with dinner or a beer while we are watching a movie, that is fine.

The more salacious you make it, the more enticing you make it. I grew up with parents who allowed me to drink at home in moderation and so drinking was never that exciting/taboo. Did I drink too much in college? Yes...but it was rare ocassion.

Follow DH's rules.

We only drink a countable number of drinks per year, 1 or 2 in front of our kids.

Parental example is very tied to outcomes.

Alcohol is a highly optional part of life and is not needed to have fun. Many beverages are equally refreshing.

Really?
So if I my husbnd has 1-2 a night in front of kids but I rarely have any...?

Good that you didn't become an addict but, for many people we have addictions in our family so I wouldn't want to encourage drinking alcohol. There is nothing good about alcohol and it is really bad for you.

I would allow a 20 year old to have a wine served with a holiday dinner or a beer at a family Christmas party at that age, sure. I don’t love the scenario of him just having a beer on the couch by himself outside of social drinking. I think it’s fine to view that differently if it’s your alcohol he’s taking and consuming.

I would be ok with it. No sense in forbidding something you have no control over majority of the year.
Anonymous
No, it’s illegal.

And that law has saved thousands of lives. Don’t throw in the towel.

Model safe, responsible adulting.

Age 21 drinking is a rule only because of driving.

If you don't let him have a drink at home when it drivng, while other people drink at the same event, you are being ridiculous.

Anonymous
I’d allow it.
