Things changed drastically this year in so many sports with the roster changes, and a kid who would have easily found a home in D1 in previous years might be in an entirely different position now. Nobody has any idea how this will play out for 2028s.

Have them play the sport they want to play, period.

This is only for certain sports.

It’s every sport other than football (increased roster sizes) and basketball (no change).

This, this, this! I know several D1 athletes for whom their college sport was really their passion and they still found playing at the D1 level to be absolutely miserable at times. Not loving the sport? Recipe for disaster. So curious what the two sports are. Willing to share? At least just sport B?

This, unless the coach and team are the reason why kid doesn’t like the sport as much.

Don't bank college on their sport. If you don't have money for college, look to CC options rather than forcing the kid into a sport. Recruiting is brutal and doesn't always give you the outcome you think you want.

All good advice to consider above.
Keep in mind, recruiting for several sports is drastically changing with extra attention on foreign athletes (including those who play professionally).

We have several friends and relatives, recently graduated, who were D1 recruits in several sports who claim they would not get an offer now (5-7 years later) despite high talent level.
