Any advice for deciding between two sports? HS edition.

Why does he have to decide between them right now? Just have him continue to play both through high school…

Something tells me this decision would be a no brainer were it not for a parent emphasizing the "rare talent" and "D-1 possibility".

Sport a hands down. Play the sport they love with teammates they enjoy and good coaches. Make the most of these years of their childhood.

Duh sport B. Rare talent? D1? Scholarships, jobs, opportunities and recruitments? Duh. If he doesn’t love sport B he’s really going to love his life in entry level accounting.

+1. Immediate thought as well. I find it hard to believe kid is D1 capable without loving a sport. At that level, every kid is very good, but the work ethic and pure love of a sport sets them apart.

I have two high schoolers and both are 3 season sports. They need to be disciplined w/ their time but have had no issues. Occasionally they have to miss captains practices bc still in season for a different sport, but coaches are understanding. It’s fairly common at their school

Why does he have to choose between the two sports. My DS is a D1 athlete and played 2 sports during HS.

And, like the posters above said, the landscape has changed with many sports having to implement roster caps.

This question is designed to be unanswerable. Help me choose where to hike next. My first option is a trail that is closer, but the hike is not that exciting. The second option is a trail that is a bit farther, but the views are better. I wonder who can give me an informed advice without knowing what trails I am talking about.

OP should say what Sport B is. What is a rare talent in a D1 sport?
