Agreed! Must just be the private schools where it is so toxic.

No, we love it too at our private. It's met with nothing but excitement and support and no one I've ever met cares if strangers are watching. It's just the DCUM weirdos who find it so objective.

I think it's rather creepy that so many people stalk these instagram accounts. Not sure what the point is if you don't know the kids.

My senior has switched schools a bunch. We haven't stayed in touch, but I'm curious where her former classmates are going to school.

The most impressive sounding colleges tend to get posted in the mid- December to end of Jan time frame and then again mid-March to end of April. The very early ones are often people locking in schools that have more rolling decision processes.

You try not play the game, but you are deep in it.

Know too many people who say things like "there are no such things as good and bad schools, only good and bad fits!" and then the next day mention something about their "good friend Jenna who went to STANFORD. Did you hear me?..STANFORD(!!!)..."
and/or are obsessed with where their kid goes to school even if they feign disinterest. So cringey. Just own it.

Georgetown Day with 3! Northeasterns, Wellesley, Middlebury, 2 BC's, Tulane, UVM

Looks like GDS kids also got into Princeton, Carleton, and Cornell.

Last year someone mentioned my kid’s college choice on DCUM, which DC and another student posted about it. It’s popular with DC-area kids, know a handful there now from DC’s school and other publics/privates, but nobody talks about ever wanting to go there, so it definitely was weird seeing that someone saw it and posted (they were positive, but still).

I asked my exceptionally anti social media kid if he was going to post once he had made a decision and he said of course. This is definitely a thing the kids like.

My kid goes to a tiny school where not everyone goes to college, so they don't do it for all the right reasons -- but my kid, who is going to college, is disappointed.

I can see this perspective. But my kid has been watching the instagram posts come up tonight with pure excitement for his classmates. It sucks to see all the happiness if you got bad news, but he is looking out for those friends, too. The kids seem to be better people than the parents, and are genuinely using these posts to celebrate each other.

This post is creepy. People know how to google a school on IG. This should come down.

Alas - not all of us have your google skills.

It's one thing to look up the schools. It's another thing to post a list here. The latter is the creepy one.

I wish they would wait until spring to set up these pages--that way, all of the kids would be able to share in the fun at the same time. Right now, the disappointed ED kids (and those kids who didn't/couldn't ED for whatever reason) are left out.
