The food recall people are in food safety, not agricultural standards. Weakening govt could mean that standards on farms and ag inspections are less frequent and less thorough than the already problematic standards AND the agencies that test food for safety have fewer resources to do so.

Plus, I hope that making food recalls news will make food producers step up their food safety. Better to know than not know.

The current system doesn't work. Inspectors write reports and those reports are regularly ignored. New laws, increased budgets, and more employees isn't going to do anything except increase the number of ignored reports.

USDA took virtually no action — allowing Boar’s Head to continue business as usual at its chronically unsanitary Virginia plant — despite finding repeated serious violations. The Virginia plant should have been shut down years ago

The USDA knew about this plant. It ignored the problem. I guess they hoped it would just get better. The current system is staffed by people without any will to do anything. They collect their paycheck and go home. And don't eat deli meat.

Not recalled I don’t think but the Tom’s toothpaste factory was found to have mold in its production system

It's so frustrating that even these companies that have developed a reputation for being a step up in quality are being found to be unsafe as well - Whole Foods carrots, Boars Head deli meat, Tom's of Maine?

Tho some wonder after Amazon took WF. But yes can't eat or use many products. What'll be next?

Still I feel nervous.

Costco called us about our carrots and so did giant. so those two stores at least are keeping track

(We eat a lot of carrots. I had baby carrots and soup carrots.)

"The Endico 2.5 lb bags of frozen peas and carrots and mixed vegetables were distributed in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maryland, Florida and Washington, D.C., between July 18 and Aug. 4, 2025, the Food and Drug Administration’s recall notice said. The company, Endico Potatoes Inc., is based in Mount Vernon, New York.

Here are the lot codes of the recalled products:

Peas and carrots: lot 110625, production date 6/11/25, use by date 6/10/27
Mixed vegetables: lot 170625, production date 6/17/25, use by date 6/16/27"
