I have one bag of Grimmway Farms baby carrots from Costco but it's best by later than the date on here:

Still I feel nervous.

Out of "abundance of caution" compost them.

Recalled brands include Trader Joe's, and 365 Whole Foods among others.

Until this one, not sure I ever knew someone personally who was affected by a listeria outbreak. But with the baby carrots, I have several friends who got sick (or their kids got sick) from this. Personally I tend to buy the Trader Joe's organic carrots too but had not the past few weeks.

Curious how sick they were. What symptoms?

Gastrointestinal I believe, one mom told me it was the sickest her kids had ever been. They couldn't figure it out, as only the kids were sick and it was lasting longer than a typical stomach bug. Then the recall made the news, they had the recalled carrots and kids had eaten for lunches (but parents had not).

I got the carrots recall email from Whole Foods. Last week I had an issue with rotten tomatoes at a different store. Week before that, cream spoiled before sale by date. It is so annoying and wasteful.

Peel and cook everything. That’s how my immigrant mother did it. Fresh food is always suspect.

That’s why Asian countries have a tradition to cook everything

People want fast and easy foods or meals,.carrots are easy to wash peel and eat. What's the new FDA guy going to do and if regulations are eliminated, will we even know of recalls?

The food recall people are in food safety, not agricultural standards. Weakening govt could mean that standards on farms and ag inspections are less frequent and less thorough than the already problematic standards AND the agencies that test food for safety have fewer resources to do so.
