My kid's school is asking for my driver's license number

Anonymous
Have you never visited the school while class was in session before? They’re just trying to know who is entering the building. They want to know who you are and verify that you are who you say you are. They want to know if you’re a registered sex offender who isn’t allowed on school grounds.

What do you fear will happen if your driver’s license number is leaked? It’s not tied to your financial information or your medical records.

OK, but MCPS can't do anything with the drivers license number itself, so why are they asking for it? They don't have access to DMV systems to verify the information.

The system is checking it against the sex offender registries.

Sex offenders can't send children to school?

They can’t be on school grounds.

They aren't on school grounds. So this has nothing to do with sex offender status

Government often does things because the checklist tells them to. Somebody consulted best-practices guide with a checklist that has an entry for validating ID. Therefore, they require ID.

They didn't validate anything. You can tell them you live in the white house and they'd take your word for it

If they’re requiring a driver’s license number, they’re not just taking people at their word.

Does the google form state why this information is necessary? What is the form for?
