15yo DS puts duct tape over mouth before sleeping

Anonymous
I just did this last night for the first time! I bought specific mouth tape patches but will switch over to the recommendations here. (Thanks PP’s!) I also used a breathe right strip on my nose to increase airflow. I was all taped up! Lol I had the best night sleep ever. Never woke up and I feel more rested. It wasn’t uncomfortable at all! Will be doing this every night.

Thanks for this thread - I've been using a headgear thing that doesn't work well and is super uncomfortable.

My kid has done this for a long time, but using blue painter's tape.

the annoyed people sleeping next to us

I do it as well and it works great. I used to not be able to sleep on my back because mouse would open up and I would wake up startled with a lack of air feeling.
Mouth taping has fixed that and supposedly body regulates o2/co2.nitrogen ratio in order to keep nasal passages de-congested. I was concerned beforehand about nose getting congested, but it has actually become better. Supposedly I do not snore anymore either.

It’s a thing…but for people who use cpap for sleep apnea…

Your partner is usually the person who tells you. (Also partners usually notice apnea first)

Buy him Hostage tape on Amazon. My DH started wearing it to sleep. Sleeps better, doesn’t wake me up, and he said his jaw feels a thousand times better.

There are velcro straps made for CPAP users that help hold the mouth shut and don't have the downsides of tape.

This is effing weird and potentially dangerous.

Is this a new tikTok thing?

Should I be concerned ? Tell him he can't do this?

The problem with mouth breathing is you might become a conservative and then your life is no longer worth living.

This more than anything. I'd be concerned with what else he's tried or will try.

Read the book. "Mouth breather" is an insult for a reason.

If he gets a stuffy nose during the night he can die in his sleep.

If he has to sneeze during his sleep (extremely unlikely) he will be forced to sneeze through the nose and he could rupture a brain blood vessel.

Many people do it, but as others have said he should use the appropriate tape
