Why is Canvas crashing so often this year?

It's a total mess this quarter and I've heard there are some parents of special needs kids who are going to file a complaint because for a kid who needs organizational help not having the assignments online somewhere is not good and for some it's a violation of their accommodations.

But it puts teachers in a terrible situation. I can't sit there wasting time trying to log into Canvas multiple times a day to post an assignment but I can't also email every individual student who has an IEP that says they need written notice or description of assignments. Yet another reason why we are overworked and feeling beaten down.

Create a distro list and email the assignment to the entire class. Done.

That's not happening. We'd have to just get rid of grades altogether. "I didn't get the email."

This is a great opportunity for admin to blame the new teachers because they don't have tenure and we can't non renew technology...lol

When I can’t get into Canvas on my computer, the app on my phone usually works. Not ideal because it is harder to navigate, but a potential option for those who are having trouble getting in

Most systems don't break like this.

What could the union do? It’s an IT issue.

MCPS has a habit of cherry-picking features they contract from different platforms. Synergy can do all of the things that Canvas does regarding student access to curriculum/assignments and Canvas can also provide all of the grading & reporting features we are accustomed to in Synergy. But MCPS doesn't contract a full and cohesive package from either one source. Hands get greased. All stakeholders get frustrated, then blame one another!
