Why is Canvas crashing so often this year?

It's impossible for DC to get any work done. Why can't MCPS fix this? Teachers are also complaining.

I don't think it's very well maintained, TBH. For example, they don't seem to archive things well. I was still connected to my DS's middle school Canvas class pages long after he was well into his high school journey as a junior.

They probably only paid for X amount of bandwidth and it isn't enough.

As a teacher I thought it was just me! It’s horrible this year!!! Worse than dial up internet back in the day it’s so slow to load.

Yep MyMCPS and Synergy have been crashing like crazy all year for me. Makes teaching hard when no one can access anything.

MyMCPS is broken for my right now, and I cannot grade. Synergy was broken most of the day for me.

That's terrible. Why can't the union do anything? This is not something teachers (and students) should have to deal with on top of everything else.
Most systems don't break like this.

I get the parent emails-I click on them, and half the time the site isn’t connecting. It’s such a crap system.

Sounds like they have issues with their computer. Canvas works great for us.

Because it's a garbage LMS that the Jack Smith administration gleefully signed up for despite neighboring districts complaining about it. He got a free lunch and we've had a decade of an awful LMS for all stakeholders.

I hate Canvas. I get parent emails saying there's comments on my kid's assignment. I click on said link. Half the time, I get this message:

Hmmm… can't reach this page
classroom.mcpsmd.org took too long to respond

The other half of the time, if I can click through and login as a parent, there's no sign of the comments that canvas is notifying me about.

This tech is stuck in the 90s and it makes it harder for parents to figure out how their kid is doing.

It's not a computer thing. Does the same for me at work, ex-DH at his home, etc. The MCPS customization is very unstable after they made some updates. The teachers bring it up when kids ask why they haven't put an assignment on Canvas. It's because they could not get in. It's very frustrating.
