We just got quoted $300k for kitchen cabinets only, excluding appliances and install.

You can renovate a kitchen similar to the typical new construction for way less than $100k.

It happens. There are some very ambitious designers out there, but it shouldn't get to that point accidentally. Were some very specific details requested? Is it a German line + design that pushes boundaries? |

Home Depot quotes a 14' x 18' kitchen with island like in the link for $60k installed. 10' x 10' and no island for $33k. It is not high-end but it is nice for most peoples standards. |
300K!? For just cabinets? How big is your kitchen and what kind of wood are those cabinets? |
Wow. From where? I assume all wood and custom. What type of wood, what brand? |
Are they made of precious metals? $300K is insane. |
Did you set a budget up front? I am not sure how you would be surprised without letting them know what your budget was. When did quartersawn white oak cabinetry and customization and it was about $40k- however the pantry cabinetry on the wall saved us from changing the foot print of the house and even more time and expense. |

I wanted an induction range and that meant our whole breaker panel had to be upgraded. We also had to move a radiator (100 year old house) and that was a huge ordeal. Plus plumbing had to be moved.
We got pretty much bottom-of-the-line cabinets and the kitchen still cost $75k because of all that. |
+1 You can be relatively unskilled and DIY 75% of the job (assuming nothing major and not a gut job). Demo=free Ikea cabinets=6k (DIY install) quartz countertop= 6k Hire plumber +electrician=2k Misc- 2k 16k no más! |
