I’m approaching a “soft clothes only” phase — need help

op is asking for recommendations. Those look like something my seamstress mom would've made for me back in the 70s, and forced me to wear.

Maybe if you are 5'8"+, and slim it would look ok on you, but OP is 5'5" with a big chest. That will look more like a muumuu house dress on her.

I am the one who suggested them and I am 51, so - as I keep saying! - we are ALLOWED TO LIKE DIFFERENT THINGS. I would delete my post if we had that ability because my gd this is annoying! I don't remember holding a gun to anyone's head and saying that anyone else is REQUIRED to wear a dress that I personally have gotten a LOT of great use from! Happy use! I feel great in these dresses! I am five feet tall so perhaps it helps to be a Tiny Person who wears them or MAYBE WE JUST LIKE DIFFERENT F'IN THINGS.

I was in this situation with a less serious diagnosis and surgery that kept me off my feet for a long time. I am still in my soft clothes phase afterward because it turns out that soft clothes are nice.

When I need to look pulled together, I have some quarter-zips from Aritzia that look fancier than a regular quarter zip sweatshirt. I get them in cream and beige and they look expensive, and they're thick enough that they drape well and don't cling. I have a very similar build to yours, OP, and find that some soft clothes are too thin and too clingy for our build.

Usually I just wear a plain t-shirt under my quarter zips, but my colleague recently wore a Frank and Eileen collared knit shirt under one with the collar popped to match the lines of the quarter-zip collar. It looked great and made her look really put together.

For sweatpants, I go with the big baggy ones from Aritzia for days that I'm at home in the same color as my top or a nice neutral olive. I haven't fully solved the "pants that look ok in public" issue but if I wear matching top and bottom, it looks intentional instead of like I just got out of bed.

Op, I wish you great luck. I have a totally AH and casual lifestyle excepting infrequent part time gigs where I have to truly dress up. I had a leg surgery this month and have aches. I have similar proportions and love bumming around in size 1 sweatsuit separates from the great and also think I may get a velour set from Susie kondi

Agree that the karma east dresses would look super cute on the right 50 year old. In fact, I think I'd like them more on someone that age than the 20ish models. On an older woman with the personality to match - playful, confident, doesn't take herself so seriously - those dresses are great!
