What makes you assume someone’s jewelry or handbag is fake?

Doesn't matter whether it is real or fake to me, it all looks like people want to be an unpaid advertisement. So I think less of all of them, for that reason.

Public transportation with a designer bag = fake

In DC? Or NYC? Wrong.

My group at work had a temp admin and I knew her LV bag was fake. The handles were cracking so that was a big giveaway. It was a really bad fake but no big deal.

+1. I have literally never thought about this.

+1. I got skewered by an unhinged poster on here last year when I mentioned seeing a certain designer item worn by someone on the metro. The person assured me people who wear expensive clothing only take Uber 🙄

I don’t care but many Asians are carrying/wearing fake stuff. It’s rampant in Asian. There is fake Chanel, Burberry, Gucci, Prada, LV, etc. it’s everywhere!

Ask me how I know ….. daughter of Mom who travels to Asia all the time and brings back goodies. Some look better than others. Some last longer than others too. Sometimes the attention to detail is unreal.

There are also tons of Asians with real things. It’s a massive luxury market and there is tons of wealth there.

Love this

I am sorry you can’t afford one.

I think that when I see someone with a Vuitton bag and a really bad outfit like jean shorts or bad leggings, flip flops and a bright colored touristy looking tshirt.

Op here. I’ll use McLean/Tysons as an example for me, because it’s an area I would subjectively describe as wealthier. I’ve seen plenty of women all sizes, larger, smaller carrying designer bags or shopping in the Galleria and always assumed they had $$$.

I wouldn’t assume someone with Van Cleef (sp?) and a size 14/16/18 was wearing a fake piece of jewelry simply because of their weight.

It shocked me that an assumption like that could be common. It never crossed my mind. I’ve seen trailer parks with Mercedes and BMW’s parked outside and thought they must spend more on their car, less on their home in the same way some people have nice homes but old beat up vehicles. I just never made a connection between weight and inability to afford luxury goods.

Luxury cars fall dramatically in value once purchased and they are expensive to repair. But people like how they drive and their comfortable leather upholstery. So if you know how to repair cars yourself, you can get good deals on old luxury cars.

Somewhere around me, there once was an old Ferrari. I looked it up and found I could buy a running one with issues for $17K. That's because repair parts cost $1,000s if you buy from non-junkyards.

Louis Vuitton logo just reads fake to me now. I feel sorry for their brand.

Counterfeit goods have ruined LV.

I don't make assumptions, but any type of bag or piece for jewelry for which a replica exists is just not fashionable to me. So if someone carries a LV bag or wears a Cartier love bracelet, it's more of a signal that they have very basic taste rather than a supposed signal of their wealth.

It's very amusing to look at the outfits on r/RepLadies. They think they're fashionable and they're not.

Most of us...

1. Don't even notice you have a handbag
2. If we do we don't try to figure out who made it
3. If who made it is super obvious like the name of the company is in pt56 font and I can't miss it, I don't even know who that is, what it means or even how to pronounce it
4. I wouldn't even think to think... is that fake because I can't even conceptualize that people pay $2000 for a bag.

Most normal people don't care.

I want to care, and I own a couple LV, but I keep carrying my $40 Lulu nylon crossbody mini that zips at the top.
