This. I always wonder if the people on the fashion forum have left their house in years. Every black tie wedding I’ve been to for 15 years has half the women wearing black knee length cocktail dresses lol. And half the men are wearing black suits with black tie. Bridezillas may not like it, but no one wants to buy a new $500 dress for your wedding. |
| I love the dress. But I think a colorful belt or accessories will cheapen the look of the dress. I would do metallic accessories. |
| My daughters MIL and her daughters all wore black to my daughters wedding. Message received loud and clear. She wasn’t happy they were getting married before he finished his medical residency. |
NP but i think you are your daughter are the nasty ones in this story. Black at weddings is super normal and doesn't reflect any ill will. That you are still stewing over it (as the mother, not even the bride!!) speaks volumes about you, and not the inlaws. |

I always wear black to fancy weddings and so does half of everyone there.
I would wear a shoe with color or metallic or get a clutch in a color. Plus some fun bracelets and/or earrings. |
| It’s 2024. People wear black to weddings, and there’s no hidden “message” when they do so. My god. |
Your daughter didn’t have her fiancée’s sisters in the bridal party? |
No, Black tie is not a long gown- but the point is moot because hers is long |
Oh FFS they probably just felt their best in black. Are you people all living in a different century? Were they wearing black veils too? A black dress with great accessories is fabulous for a wedding. |
| Please don’t do a chunky belt, you’ll look like you belong to the early 00s. I would do a long sparkly earring with my hair up and a metallic bag. |
Agreed. No belt at all. Let the gown be sleek. Earrings, bag and shoes in metallic. Simple and elegant. Those red shoes from early make me cringe with a beautiful black gown. Though I would definitely wear them with something else. |
