No athletic recruit chooses between D1 Davidson and D3 Middlebury. One is Atlantic 10 and plays with the big boys. The other is a middling NESCAC, which is maybe better than your average high school conference, but c'mon.

Not really sure why the troll is trying to start this conversation. But it's not real.

Depending on sport, NESAC can be better than lower D1. Davidson is definitely lower D1.

Which sport?

Funny how OP posts their question looking for advice, and then disappears.

OP, name your kid's sport. Prove you're not a troll

I’m not op, but Davidson isn’t competitive in any D1 sport outside track and field. To assert that op must be a troll because her son is also considering a NESAC is bananas, but the Davidson parents on DCUM often act bananas.

I’ll add that repeatedly claiming op is a troll is a good way to turn her off of Davidson.

there’s one person on DCUM who has a weird obsession with calling out sports recruiting questions - basically wanting to know every aspect of any OPs kid, even if OP is just asking a general question. Calling out people as trolls is just awful and low class. Think it must be a parent who had a failed recruiting experience with their own kid

Not pp, but a good sign of a troll is some odd scenario gets tossed out there, and OP never weighs in again. I agree on looks like a troll. But it's a free world. Go ahead and give your advice on what a make-believe child should do.

I should add I don't know of any Middlebury men's sport where they would be competitive with Davidson. It's an empty set.

I don’t know of any sport where they wouldn’t, perhaps basketball, though Davidson is a long way from the days of Steph Curry.

The ideas that Davidson is some kind of athletic powerhouse is quite amusing, but typical of the over the top boosterism for this school.

I don’t understand your comment about Davidson boosterism. I’ve never read a DCUM comment touting Davidson’s sports. Yes, Curry went there, but no one thinks that’s happening again. Students go to Davidson for the overall academics and atmosphere.

Then you must not have read this thread, what a strange comment.

If Trump wins will either of these schools be miserable over the next 4 years for a semi conservative kid?

Googling told me Davidson was less conversative than Middlebury. A friend's ds is a conservative athlete at Brown and wow has that been tough. He's basically shunned by his teammate (nice kid, not Trumpy or loud mouth).

Gotta love the “open minded” Democrats.

Such a tired talking point. We don’t need to be open-minded about authoritarianism and hate.

THIS ^^ is actually the tired talking point. Being a conservative is not about the bolded. Grow up.

Davidson is super liberal and the school is so small that your kid will absolutely be liberal before he graduates.

Ignorant, uninformed comment by an obvious ultra right wing idiot. Next.

Tell Steph Curry that Davidson is " Lowe D1"

OP here - yes the coach casually joked about this - really didn’t think it was true

Maybe you should talk with some students or graduates. There are plenty in the DC area, and the school would probably provide a few names. DCUM posters frequently comment on stuff without firsthand experience, so it’s better to do your own research. For us, Davidson has been great.

Steph Curry left Davidson 15 years ago.

Anonymous wrote:DS goes to Davidson. The school is middle of the road politically and emphasizes discourse about differences. This year their theme is “Building a Community of Trust.” At the convocation, the university president acknowledged differences, but noted that a scholarly community can’t stop there. Students and faculty owe it to each other to build a trusting environment where differences can be meaningfully and rigorously discussed without polarizing the community. Our country would be better off if we all did the same. Sounds like common sense.

Kind of strange that you would be this immersed in your college student’s daily life.

DP but my kid's college (not Davidson) invited parents to the president's welcome along with students and then had an afternoon of parent programming separate from students. Sorry yours doesn't do this, but it's not abnormal.
