Do you dislike your first name, or do you regret the name you chose for your child?

I think that the other parent wanted Paige. They only had one child. The father said that he hated being Tom since it was so common.

I don't see the difference between Paige and Catherine, honestly. Catherine has many cool nns.

My name is meh but, I love my kids' names ( and most importantly they love their names too)

It was briefly popular for a period and now it's not. People can pick out my birth year within 5 years, just by my first name.

Was it Roberta?

I dislike my first name because every fuxker I meet tries to shorten it.

I hate my first name. It was picked out of a 10,000 names to name your baby book and is from a culture that I'm not from. Then my mom pronounced it using her 1980s Texas interpretation of the spelling. It's always misspelled and always mispronounced. In addition, people will assume I'm from a background that I'm not, and that's awkward too.

Just for reference, I just checked and I got 11 work emails today with my name misspelled. It's constant.

Yes Catherine (or Kate) is a very plain moniker…..I prefer the name Paige.

My ex-husband chose our son’s first name while I chose the middle.

The first name is very common & I just never grew to like it very much. 😟
I thought in time I would, but 34 years later have not!!

A common Gen-X’s name would be like Valerie, Deborah or even Jackie.

The most common Gen-X name is Jennifer.

I do not like that I am frequently called Katherine and I do not like my nickname options. Kathy is just...ACK! I literally bristle when people call me that. There were a million Katies growing up.

In my 30s I have started going by Kat in some circles, and it's grown on me.

Kat is a very cool nickname!

I like my first name, but feel meh about my middle name. I wish I had my sister’s middle name instead because it flows better with mine.

Regarding my kids’ names, I love my oldest and youngest sons' names. I wish I had picked another name for my daughter though.

Statistically nowhere near as common as Jennifer. It was the #1 name for like 7 years running and was more popular than any name today. I think I read that there were more girls named Jennifer in a single year in the 70s than given any of the top 10 girls names now. Or something like that.

And then it fell out of popularity because everyone knew a dozen Jennifer's already There were 6 in my graduating class of 200.

I’m one of those plentiful Jennifers (Jenny) and I like it. I rarely use my middle name but it’s also nice. DS has a name that works in multiple languages, which was intentional. Our names seem to suit us well.

My name is Alexa and I’m an “elder millenial”. Literally no other Alexas around growing up but tons of Alexandra, Alexis, Alexia. Spent my youth correcting people and spelling my name for everyone. I hated it but always was fine with my name (though I wished my parents had named me something a bit more common or that had nickname possibilities).

Fast forward @32 years and all of a sudden Amazon names their virtual assistant after me. And now every time I introduce myself to someone I get either a joke or “you must really hate Amazon”.

At the end of the day Amazon has made my life easier in that I don’t have to spell my name anymore but also harder because everywhere we go that has an Alexa makes it impossible for anyone to say my name. We were just in a hotel that we didn’t even realize had one and my husband kept saying my name and setting it off. We don’t have one at home for obvious reasons.
