Well, Papa John's is just crap. Anyone should feel offended by such awful pizza.

Snob.

That sounds enormously frustrating, OP. I feel for you. It sounds like he derives an unusual amount of self esteem from the pizza making, and also that he’s a bit of a control freak.

My DH, who is definitely a control freak, doesn’t cook, loves my cooking, and complains every time we order takeout, even though we can easily afford it. As a result, I order takeout for dinner most nights when he travels, and the kids and I have a lot of fun picking restaurants and meals. I sometimes do this for lunch if I’m working from home and he’s in the office. If there are times when your DH is not home, this is a good solution. I also agree with posters who have mentioned he should make pizza only on weekends.

OP here. I am Calle of ordering pizza on my own, but did you read my response where I explained how he reacted the last time I did this?

So let the whiny baby whine while you all ignore him and enjoy your takeout pizza. Aren’t you a grown woman? Why are you enabling nonsense you wouldn’t put up with from a toddler?

Moved out of DC last year and am back in an area where there are a couple good $20 pizza options within a 5min drive. It is liberating after being in DC for over a decade and having to choose between chains, jumbo slice, or $30+ craft pizzas that are not suited for takeout pizza night.

Yeah I'm coming down to "just ignore him." This is like someone saying they'll roast a chicken when someone's grabbing a rotisserie. People are hungry now, you deal. He wants to go pout, too bad. If he wants to make pizza for dinner he needs to actually think ahead so it's done in time for dinner.

Anonymous wrote:My DH loves to cook, and is always trying to perfect his pizza recipe. He makes a very good pizza we all agree, but sometimes our kids and myself want to get take out and not have to deal with dishes, kitchen clean up, etc. DH flat out refuses this and always says that his pizza is by far better than any take out options. it's frustrating because even on nights after we've been away all day or are exhausted from activities, he'll still insist that we make his pizza at home rather than pick one up. It takes hime awhile to make it, and it's not a good thing when we're starving and he's meticulously stretching the dough, grating cheeses, etc...

I know this is an odd problem, but I'm getting frustrated that he never seems to understand that sometimes it's about convenience as opposed to having his "superior" pizza, and the kids are always begging for a take out one and only get turned down by him saying his pizza is better than the local shops. We're so grateful that he always wants to make us pizza, but I just want him to be willing to order out at times!

Order Chinese or Thai instead?

Tell me with a straight face that you think Papa John's is a quality product.

You have to let the stone come up to temp, the dough has to rise, good sauce needs a half hour to simmer. If I'm making pizza I usually decide at least 3 days beforehand and make bits of it ahead because it takes time and is messy

Pizza sauce is not supposed to be cooked. Fresh tomatoes swirled with an immersion blender, some basil thrown in, that’s all you need.

Yes! With a little salt and olive oil stirred in.

Does he act controlling with his whiny pouting about other things too, or just this

Who died and made you the judge of all pizza?

That's a choice but not thr standard way of making pizza sauce.

Plus even if he was making sauce that way, you still can't get around making dough rise. It's just not physically possible to make from scratch pizza quickly.

Of course it's not. But when you're hungry you don't want to wait for someone to tinker with dough.

The issue isn't quality the issue is time. You don't launch into a long dinner project when people are already hungry

NP. I’ll eat Papa Johns when I’m hungry vs. waiting for some precious manbaby to make his very special pizza 2 hours from now, for sure
