High schoolers can take a public bus too (it's free I think, you can get a pass from the county?). I took public transport to my private high school my whole life tbh, in another state.

Not saying this is great, just that if APS is cutting somewhere maybe this isn't the worst place, and busses are expensive.

Oh I get it, I just think they should have sent a letter telling us we don’t get a bus this year because they lack sufficient resources to provide transportation for our neighborhood. Instead they pretend to have given us transportation. It’s annoying. Also, a little heads up that they were taking away our transportation would have been great for planning purposes.

They can’t do that because state requires they provide transport and thus you would have grounds to sue.

The state does not require transportation regardless of distance to the school. 1.5 miles is well within the 2 mile policy that is pretty typical for high school.

Kids cross Old Dominion everyday to get to Discovery/Williamsburg/Yorktown. Not the safest of crosswalks if there's one at all, but just teach them that they need to pay attention to their surroundings.

It will be okay.

Op already posted that it was an error and transportation corrected the mistake. So yeah, it will be ok.

Did you miss the 6 lanes road? We have a 2 mile rule, so no buses in MCPS and it sucks as we have to drive as they'd have to cross two dangerous roads and a big chunk of the walk is no sidewalks.

Where is there a 6 lane road in Arlington? Rt 50??

Yes. Rt 50 is 3 lanes in both directions.

And there is zero chance a high school is crossing 50 for a bus to neighborhood school — look at the boundary map. And there are several over passes, so you aren’t crossing a 6 lane road in any meaningful way. But they aren’t crossing 50.
