These are great tests overall, the 40, the 2 mile, beep, shuttle, etc. if your program ISN’T testing, that’s a problems.
Even back in the 90’s we had pre-season / start of season fitness testing. We did a timed 10 mile run…based on the logic that soccer players run up to 10 miles in a single match…so glad sports science and soccer sports science specifically has moved on from the “marathon” testing to things much more useful to measure. |
Youth soccer players do not run up to ten miles in a single match. Four or five tops. But agree that if you have a club not checking in on fitness at the beginning, you're wasting your money. |
| So just give the track team and cross country team a ball 😂🤣 |
Maybe it’s just for the older kids. Did you get a fitness packet for the summer? I do would be in there. If it says you’re getting tested, you will be tested. New AD isn’t messing around… i have my fingers crossed for a much better year than last year and I like the new vibe. |
| We were at Maryland United for several years and never once did any fitness test or fitness training. Was pretty comical when we came up vs. a team that was actively doing it. You could tell the difference inside of 5 mins. |
No...It's probably because the kids make playoffs each summer. |
| Do kids actually get benched or anything if they “fail” the tests? |
You do know regular training improves fitness. If you're going to training consistently and actually giving 100% when you're there. |

Care to cite your study? Or even link an article? Regular training MAY improve fitness. But it doesn’t guarantee it. |
You're an idiot. |
He's a quadruple idiot. You're being nice. |

For our high school soccer team, for tryouts, the first cut is made based on speed.
|
The track team cut made on juggling? |
Speed is important! Just got our butts kicked by a younger, smaller team, who were all faster than us! |
Spain just won the European Championship and the Olympics Argentina just won the World Cup Speed of play, not speed of players |
