We should have added a PD day or two to the calendar like surrounding jurisdictions. This is absolutely ridiculous that we are asking our schools to coordinate this on top of all the other demands and during a staff shortage.

80-90% of FCPS parents could put these times in for PTO today, they just don’t want to. They don’t want to use their own PTO for childcare.

People are already taking enough PTO for random Mondays when FCPS decides to close

Maybe look into daycare.

Just another example that FCPS sucks!

When my kids first started in FCPS about 10-11 years ago EVERY MONDAY(or maybe it was Tuesdays..) was an early release. I feel like back then teachers just had it together and managed better as compared to now. There is just way too much for them to do now. I see it. I have one still in ES, luckily an older grade so not worried about these "7" early release Mondays. I do feel for the parents of younger kids who have not experienced consistent early release days. It is alot to juggle.

How much PTO do you think everyone gets??
Trying to carve out an extra 21 hours is a huge ask.

I don’t think they’re asking, I think they’re telling. They’re telling you school will not be open during that time.

They also said that kids that need to stay can stay...

Maybe look into keeping school open for 5 days in a row more often.

I’ll believe it when I see concrete plans.

We’re past that. 5 days a week is not in the foreseeable future.

It is clear that this country does not value education anymore. It's going to end really badly. It became clear when I could go to the Super Bowl and the Wizards games long before my kids could go to school in person - and it's clear now with all of these "cultural holidays" and need to send kids home from school for absolutely any possible reason. The kids will remember that their education wasn't valued.

But as a parent, you need to show that you value it. Too many parents are leaving things up to FCPS.

I am so tired of hearing teachers have so much to do now. What exactly do they do in ES? Lesson plans? Fine. Attend IEP meetings? Ok. Manage a ton of kids? Definitely.
But so many resort to YouTube to teach their lessons and grading is automatic.

Maybe we’re also tired of parents thinking that we don’t do anything. Many of us, if not all of us, are NOT using YouTube to teach lessons. That’s something that parents say on DCUM and grading is not automatic.

You’re just a troll.

Our PTA is bringing in a sports camp. It's $40 a day, but you can do all 7 days for a lower rate ($238).

Our school isn't doing anything. The after school coordinator position in the PTO is empty. They just. Don't. Care.

Our school sent out a survey to see who would be unable to pick up early, I heard the pta was planning something but I haven’t heard what yet.

I think this is so ridiculous. Our kids are in school 9am-3:30. I see teachers leave at 3:45. Why can’t they stay at school like the rest of us until 5-6pm? Why can’t they train over the summer? Or on the like 4 months total they have off?

It isn’t the PTO’s responsibility to cover this. If they can, great, but it shouldn’t be people’s expectation. FCPS made this decision and they need to figure out the plan, not pass it along to the parent groups to cover.
