Dreaming of Olympic Gold

This is a helpful reminder of the level of delusional thinking we’re dealing with in all sorts of threads and responses throughout this site.

Dressage. This is the old and unathletic cheat sport of the Olympics. Lots of 40+ men and women use it as their ticket to the Olympics. You just need a horse. And heaps of money. A little bit of time. And Olympic glory is there for the taking.

Do you have a lot of money?
Do you have a lot of time? Like at least 40+ hours per week to dedicate to training.

I almost choked on my drink. Thanks for a good laugh on a sucky Monday.

The GB equestrian star got sent home when video emerged of her whipping a horse. I wouldn't be surprised if the powers that be try removing all horse events from the games because of the animal abuse.

This is called acceptance of aging. Steps include you're too old to do gymnastics moves, then the policemen start looking like kids, then your knees hurt, then Olympic gold medal winners are younger than your own kids.

Try masters sports. You could win a medal in your age group.

OP, sounds like either water polo or gymnastics would be great fits for you. I look forward to seeing you scoring some goals and also flipping over the vault in 2028!

Someone already said curling. That's winter. You're not going to become a world class skier or skater in 10 years.

Definitely the 100m sprint. You might only be 10 seconds behind the best.

Are there any sports that are easy to pick up and excel in with dedicated training

Yes, skiing. If you're a woman, have grandparents who were born anywhere there is snow, and don't mind flying around Europe and North America to pay the entry fees at FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup events, apparently, it's not that hard.
