Any predictions on divisions next year? NVSL

You can tinker with it here:

Fascinating. We're a team likely to move up and when I run virtual meets against all the teams in the next division, it results in us getting blown out by 100+ points. Good to start managing our expectations for next year, I guess.

But the seeding survey asks what division you think you should be in, and NVSL can weigh that answer heavily in their decision.

Also, the factor that folks aren’t discussing are the virtual meets. The seeding survey asks which meet was most representative of your team and then they can use those meets to run virtual meets between teams. I understand that those results can heavily sway the seeding committee.

If virtual meets really matter, we should see Ravensworth Farm (D8) make a big jump. They are very STRONG against the adjacent division champions.

vs. D4 champion; Ravensworth Farm 209 - Little Hunting Park 206
vs. D5 champion; Ravensworth Farm 212 - Pinecrest 208
vs. D6 champion; Ravensworth Farm 236 - Fairfax 184
vs. D7 co-champion; Ravensworth Farm 223 - Rolling Hills 197
vs. D7 co-champion; Ravensworth Farm 243 - Parklawn 177

* All virtual meets based on July 13, 2024 results

I wouldn't use this past Saturday, because teams with older strong swimmers were missing a lot for open champs.

Using the 6/29 data, they lose 3 out of 4 head to head match ups.

If Crosspointe hasn't been in D1 - and they would like to move up - then give them a go, especially if OKM moves down. I don't wish my kids to be in D1 again but glad, I guess, that they had a chance to experience it. There is nothing better than meets that come down to the final relays. When our team was in D1 the meets were decided before relays began. Much more exciting when the teams are more evenly matched. Confident the NVSL officials will sort this all out. Enjoy the remainder of this hot summer season.

Really they should put Tuckahoe, Overlee, and Chesterbrook in their own division and they can race each other twice and be as obnoxious as the like to be to each other

Then put Donaldson Run, Highlands, OKM, Crosspointe, Langley, and Kent Gardens together

Everyone would be happier

Scheduling would be difficult with a three team division.

Overlee as the current clear third probably wouldn’t be so happy.

OKM parents and coaches have been suggesting this idea/solution all season. What a fun division that would be!!

*Edit (sorry, I don’t know how to make in-text changes): The suggested division of DR, Highlands, Langley, OKM, Crosspointe, and KG would be such fun!

I'd love that division. I really like seeing the meets against those teams. And the parents are nice!

Yes, spin off the top 3 teams - the Big 3 of the NVSL. Brilliant.

This post here is literally the first time I’ve heard of it - have not heard this discussed at OKM at all.

Agree!

The NVSL divisions work because there are exactly enough teams to make divisions of 6 teams each. If you spin off the top three, you'll end up with three extra teams elsewhere in the league. Would you put the bottom three into their own division as well? Make three 7-team divisions? Cancel three pools entirely? Or do you only care about the top two divisions, doesn't matter what happens to everyone else?

New to swimming and not close to d1, super curious about this. Is the issue the coaches/leadership and trickles down to swimmers, or obnoxious entitled parents raising similar kids, out of any coaches’ control?

My kids swim for a division 11 pool, and I’m hoping all the division 11 teams stay in that division. All the meets have been relatively close, all the other teams have been good sports, my fellow timers have been friendly, the pools we have gone to have been nice. I hear all these issues in other divisions and I just want to keep our entire division.
