Wow. Your post has no basis in reality. Messi was an incredible athlete. His estimated 40 time would be in the 3.9-4.1 range but because of his build his acceleration in the first 5-10 yards is greater vs that number. He would dominate in every sport but basketball and he would be very good in that. His quickness, coordination, vision, speed and speed with ball are seen only once in a generation if that. There are no non athletes in pro sports. Each pro athletes is a great athlete and there is small difference that differentiates them among other pro athletes. At that level a 2% speed difference is significant. A slow pro athlete is slow relative to their peer group of other pro athletes. |
You just called Messi a non athlete out loud in public (which is one of the problems with soccer in this country. Everyone thinks they can speak on it) So that would mean over the years, all the opposition trying to stop Messi must also be non athletes 🤔 🙄 Soccer players can only be compared to soccer players that play the same position. It's ludicrous to compare someone without soccer skills (yes, the athleticism is completely useless alone) to others who do. If only Michael Phelps played basketball with his height, he'd be the best (see how silly that sounds) |
I agree completely. Throw in other-wordly balance, which would have made him brutal in contact sports like rugby and even football (Darren Sproles comparator). |
Hahaha, you lost all credibility by estimating Messi's 40 time as sub 4.1. Talk about no basis in reality. |
| Messi is a soccer player maybe the semantics of the term non-athlete I'd workshop again. But Messi would not excel in any other sport period. Soccer is unique in that way which is the greater point I was trying to make, its not about being athletic. |
American Football players have American Football athleticism because it's a result of their training needed to play that sport. Soccer players aren't doing that kind of training since childhood, so it's beyond stupid to compare the two |
| but there both called football |
You have no idea what you are talking about. |
Athleticism isn’t sport specific. |
You have a weird definition of athletic wherein one of the elite athletes of the world does not qualify as athletic in your view. |
|
Athleticism is important in soccer, and actually, it's one reason why Messi succeeded while the other player being hyped up by FIFA ahead of the 2005 U-20 World Cup did not.
Anyone remember who that was? |
| Nope it’s not his athleticism it’s his brain. Lots of short quick, shifty lefties out there they aren’t Messi because of his brain not athleticism |
Then use your lawn tennis athleticism to win gymnastics... since its universal and transferable |
Sports require skills that are typically sport-specific and no one is arguing that athleticism is “universal and transferable”. |
If that were true wouldn't he be able to play forever? Afterall it's his brain he wouldn't be slowing down at all. |
