Left lane is for passing not for cruising NoVa

How many times do you need to post this??

Not op, but this needs to be posted as often as possible, everywhere, to get people to learn how to drive safer and more responsibly (ie, not drive slow in the left lane).

Cops don't enforce smoking marijuana while driving or texting at stoplights. They're barely going to enforce this.

Seems to be no escape from the American crankiness feedback loop.

They do. I was a VA State Trooper for four years before law school. This is a point of emphasis. Also can be reckless driving in the right circumstances.

This is why Virginians are horrible drivers and lack basic comprehension. Cursing or being in the left-hand lane is illegal other than passing and turning.

It is not illegal to drive at the speed limit in the left lane for whatever reason. It is illegal, however, to drive 1 mile over the speed limit in any lane. Simple as that.

lol. Not OP but that is the point of the thread. You cannot travel at any speed in the left lane. For passing only.

There is still a speed limit, dumba$$.

That is not your concern. You take care of you. Police will stop speeder. However, if you are in the left lane at the speed limit and speeders are all around you passing ont he right, VA State Police will pull you over and let speeders go. They would rather write you the ticket in that case.

I don't understand why people continually complain about this. The highways here are pretty much anarchy. There's not only the campers in the left lane, but the ass clowns who drive way too fast in the right lane. It's pointless and frustrating to try to think people will ever follow some semblance of road rules. Lower your expectations or move to Germany where people actually do follow predictable rules on the Autobahn.

You are wrong. Read the law.

PP is a moron who doesn't even know VA law. The law is "speed of traffic" -- not the speed limit. It's relative. If someone is coming up faster than you in the left lane of any multi lane, you move over. Hell, you should move over as soon as you see them approaching, if you're a responsible driver who's checking their mirrors every 2-3 seconds.

The law is "slowER than the speed of traffic" traffic keep right. Not "slower than the speed limit, keep right." It was written that way deliberately, and for a reason.

Slower than the normal speed of traffic. Going over the speed limit is not normal, it is illegal.

It is my concern. Recently several cars were driving way too fast in the left lane. One driver in front hit his breaks and the two cars behind it spun side ways into my lane and I almost t boned one car. Another car collided with the other spinning speeding car. It’s reckless to be driving too fast in the left lane.

It could be depending on speed. Also reckless to travel in left lane and cause others to weave in and out of traffic.

No, it's Maryland driver's. Idaho is a close second.

So, it seems that in NoVa, it is fine to stop on Arlington Road, road 50, in the left lane and stop all the heavy traffic to turn left over two yellow lines. In MD, those people would be in the ICU, and there are so many who do that every single day. If you ever see a car going the speed limit in NoVa, you know it has MD plates.
