Either he can answer a policy question or he can’t. We’ll all get to see.

He's also going to make up total BS on the spot as he did during a podcast with venture capitalists he taped recently. He promised to give all foreign students green cards on "day one." He literally pulls stuff out of his a**.

On June 19, 2024, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump taped a podcast interview with venture capitalists on the show All-In. “What I want to do and what I will do is you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically as part of your diploma a green card to be able to stay in this country,” said Trump. “And that includes junior colleges too, anybody graduates from a college. You go there for two years or four years.” Trump promised to address the issue on “day one.”

Trump will barf up word salad. Biden will stutter. Supporters of both will claim victory for their candidate. Media will be so consumed with "how it played" they won't spend much time at all with what's true, feasible, or good policy.

Why did Trump agree to a debate with CNN anchors if he does not want to participate ina debate with CNN anchors?

So he could complain about it, of course.

Of course the campaign walked back this nonsensical statement. The problem for the campaign is that they can't control what Trump says when he is in unscripted situations. He either makes up crazy stuff or riffs on something he heard from some rando. He doesn't read, he is not a thinker, he clearly doesn't retain information, he doesn't want to be told what to say or do, he thinks he's smarter than everyone, and he is experiencing cognitive decline. The campaign is going to have a hard time controlling what he says and getting him to the finish line.

This is called "managing expectations."

Team Trump must understand he's going to do terribly so they're laying the groundwork with excuses beforehand.

"On day 1 I will repeal Obamacare and replace it with a terrific plan that will cover everyone, be cheap and it will be a terrific healthcare plan!"

- Trump, 2015.

Here we are almost 10 years later and he still has NO plan.

Yes. And they will reach a fever pitch over the next few days. Still have my doubts that Trump will show though.

This is going to be a dumpster fire. Even my 18yo is gong to watch with a bowl of popcorn.

And, neither of them should moderate the debate. Dumb, dumb by the Dems to agree.

Trump's brain is a mush of grievances and narcissistic rage. I don't see this going well for him - there's no audience to play to and he has to actually have command of facts and policy.

Biden should pull an Eastwood in that case.
