Anyone else get sad and emotional on the last day of school?

I’m a teacher and even don’t like the end of the year…and most of my student didn’t either. School is where they see their friends, feel happy safe and loved.

We really need year round school!

Oh please. No we don't.

And for most kids, HOME is where they feel happy, safe and loved.

Not many. And with working families, most kids are either in day care or in front of a screen all summer or with a grandparent if the family can't afford camp.

Not really as they are going back next year. A break is due because school day is too long in US. Our school is only a mile away, but too far for me as I'm the one who has to drop them off.
We will be home doing nothing.

Yes many. Maybe not most. But many many kids are at home with a loving parent or caregiver and enjoying it.

American school summer vacations are way too long and there is not enough time off during the year. Uk is much better where you get 6-8 weeks during the summer then a break every 6 weeks

I get the existential sad feelings like something has passed that I wont get back.

But I also feel relief because my son doesnt like school (adhd and inability to sit still have squashed his joy of learning in that environment) and is a happier calmer person in summer months.

So I see both sides.
