He stuck to his prediction lol |
| Double the height at two would have put both DDs at 6-feet-plus. They both topped out at 5’9 or 5’10” — so I think just grew earlier. |
I don’t get how that works. So if they were only 30 inches at 2 they will only be 60 inches? That seems short. |
| Well, 30" tall at age 2 would be well below the 3rd percentile. It's the height of the average 13 m.o. According to the growth chart I'm looking at, the average 2 y.o. boy is about 34" tall, and the average 18 y.o. boy is 69". So a little more than 2x. |

DS1 was almost right on the money: He was 36.5" at age 2 (97th-ish percentile), and at age 20 he was 73.5" (90th percentile). (He stayed around the 97th percentile until around age 11, then he dipped to the 90th and stayed there.)
DS2 was 35" at age 2 (75th percentile). At 20, he was 73" (90th). (He stayed around the 75th percentile until about 14, then shot up.) So very different growth patterns, but they ended up at about the same place, and only one of them "doubled their height. Both of them were relatively late to puberty, but DS2 especially so. (FWIW, I'm 5'4" and DH is 5'10, but DH is much the shortest of his siblings, and my father and his brothers are/were over 6'.) |
| My son 90%+ at 2; lost ground in late ES and through MS and then shot up in 9th grade. Now at 18, he's 6/3" so back at 98%tile or so. He was a late bloomer and may still be growing some. |

Twins are 18y.
DS1 - consistently 50th percentile growing up. Now is 5'8 and about 30th percentile. DS1 - consistently 25th percentile growing up. Now 5'8 and about 30th percentile. Not sure if they are still growing... |
My son is consistently 25% percentile but that is def higher than his double the height at 2. He just hit puberty so we shall see if he maintains the curve. |
|
DS was 90th percentile in height until about age 8. Then started dropping until landed around 50th percentile by age 13 and is now age 21 and is just barely 5’10”. When he was young, everyone thought he’d be tall, but turns out he’s on the short side.
DD age 18 was always 50th percentile and is 5’5”. |
I wonder if my dd will stay on her curve. She has always been in the 30 percentile, but her legs and arms look long lol. I am only 5'2, but dad is 5'10. |
|
DS was short all through K-10, then at 16 started passing his friends. Late bloomer. He's about 5'11" now at 19, and possibly still growing. Pediatrician thinks he will reach 6'.
My DD also hit puberty late and is now 5'6" and also passed most of her friends. She was 20" at birth, so not really on the tall side. IMO, it will depend on when your kid hits puberty. |
Correct. Parental height is a better indicator |
I don't really understand the puberty affecting growth. Wouldn't you grow the same expected amount whether you started on time vs late? Sorry, I am confused by that. I mean maybe a really early puberty, I would understand. But who knows lol. I never understood that part. Like |
| My two boys were 95-100+% for height from birth onward. Their growth paths diverged in early puberty. Kid #1 grew from 5'2" at 11yo to 6'2" at 14yo. Now 20yo and has only grown another inch. Kid #2 started levelling off at 11yo and at 14yo was only about 5'9". Grew another 3" over the next year and now he's 15yo and 6ft. I'm curious if he's on a slow-but-steady path or if like his brother he did all his growing early. |
It seems like your older son grew the whole 5 years! |
