NP. We have started buying pizza doughball from the grocery store and making "homemade" pizza. Sure, it's only partly homemade but it's much less expensive than any other form of pizza, fresh, frozen, or pickup. |

Not due to inflation but whenever I’m in the store and see the price of goods in the bakery like breads and cookies I think to myself how much money I must save by baking myself. And it tastes better.
What I did change is to move to generic for many of our purchases and to only buy prepackaged snack packs in bulk at stores like Costco and Sam’s. That is saving me a ton. |
| We cook mostly from scratch, for health reasons, but no, I'm not going back to making my own sourdough and yogurt, like I did during the pandemic. Too much hassle, even though it was quite good. |

Snacks / sweets we make more at home now. It's not like we really need these and prepackaged have become too expensive.
I've just stopped buying most "snack" type prepacked food and any bottled drinks. A bag of chips is a special treat now. |
| Breakfast breads, fruit leather, batch making and freezing breakfast sandwiches. No- knead pizza dough is so inexpensive and easy to make, even if you're not saving that much. |
| I am torn about this. We definitely can't deal with the prices as is to be honest. I am making more muffins and I definitely make my own coffee. I also pack my lunch--no buying lunch out. I am also trying to use everything in my pantry, so meal planning is all about using what we having and not buying anything additional. |
| I am so trying to shop my pantry too! |

Beans. It's crazy how much more you can get for your money by buying dried beans instead of canned. I make a batch every weekend (different kind each week) and freeze them in individual containers so I have a pretty good variety in the freezer.
I do make my own yogurt, but that's not for inflation, it's just because I like it better. It's not that hard in the instant pot - heat the milk until it beeps, let it cool until a thermometer reads 115, add the starter, back in the instant pot overnight. In the morning, transfer the pot to the fridge. |
canned beans are pretty cheap though! but homemade much better. is there a brand or store you like? my big one lately is iced coffee. every time I think about going to Starbucks and dropping $5 I make it at home instead. |
And they taste better, too. |
DP, but making pizza dough is extremely easy and if you buy flour in bulk it is going to cost far less than the $2 at TJ's. Could add up if you make a lot of pizza. |
Grocery store baked goods are terrible. |
| I’ve always cooked from scratch. Definitely eating more lentils these days, less cheese. |
