East Coast -> West Coast?

That seems kind of nuts…other than Thanksgiving (and depending on when Winter break runs), most flights aren’t peak travel. Also, there are so many flight options to LAX and SFO that you can often find $300 flights.

In a normal school year, I can’t imagine more than like 5-6 flights (assuming kid does something fun for spring break and doesn’t come home).

I hope you were joking about forbidding your kid. As much as I would hate it if my kids moved far away, I could never do that to them. I want my kids to live and make their own choices. It's not about me, it's about them.

Although i agree that “forbidding” them is too strong and may eventually backfire, I do believe that it’s not only about them but that to a more limited extent, it’s about the family. I’ve tried to raise my kids to realize that they do have responsibilities to the family. Time will tell if I’ve been successful.

My sil grew up on east coast but loves California. Her two dds lived in california and boston but consider themselves east coast people.

I am an east coast person mainly because I want to avoid narural disasters. Love visiting though.

I gather you have a specific definition of East Coast...because pretty sure hurricanes (and I guess now tornados in Gaithersburg) are natural disasters.

My dc wanted east coast for college esp New England. Loved the fall foliage and the spring. Even liked the winter activities. Felt that sunny days pretty much all year round was kinda boring
