| Well, regardless of whether you're happy with it, ELC is going away soon. Especially since MCPS paid a boat load on the new reading curriculum. |
Niki Hazel said ELC is staying for 2024-25. TBD whether they use it after that. |
All schools have ELC except for immersion programs. And CES is more than just ELC. |
Yes. CCES does this for its general education program. All students are in ELC. Which makes it nothing like what is offered down the hall for students in the CES program. Also, at least at CCES, the CES program enrolls everyone in compacted math and they move faster than those in the gen ed program, so they have time for enrichment beyond just what Eureka does. And they have enriched social studies and science classes, even though I don't think those are officially part of CES. It is completely different from ELC. |
I'm considering trying to lottery into a CES to avoid uncontrolled behavioral issues in the home school population. No idea why the school would want us to go though. |
You don't have to try to lottery. Everyone is evaluated. Students who are deemed qualified are placed into a lottery and will be offered a spot if their name is selected. But very few people actually get a slot. Don't count on it. |
All I mean is I'll take a serious look at it if offered for that reason alone. I agree unlikely prospect! |
Oh I would no doubt accept a spot for my kid if offered. You can always go back to your home school if it doesn’t work out |
| If your kid doesn't have behavioral issues but every kid in his/her class does? If so, the school may be able to assist in TRYInG to get your kid to go to a CES as long as kid meets whatever criteria MCPS has these days for CES (map-r scores, grades etc). Talk to your school. |

Is this true all lottery selected? Our school has local CES( one of the few mcps). My kid is selected as GT from 2nd grade gifted letter this year. Does my kid have a higher chance to be in local CES program at home school? Does my school have ELC program or not?
Do teacher's kids , PTA officer kids or active volunteer's kids have higher chances in CES? |
Our school has never told us anything about ELC , CES, GT . There is lack of transparency issue. We are at Rachel Carson. |
If it’s not a two-way immersion school, then yes it is offered there to students who are identified for it. |
The lottery is an absolute joke. Kids who aren't even identified as GT can also get in. |
Did you not get the letter from Central Office back in January? |
GT students are by law required to be provided with enriched instruction. That said, accelerated and enriched instruction is not ONLY for GT students. And it’s noted by AEI: “ Gifted and Talented designation is not a consideration or requirement for participation in the ELC or the CES lottery process.“ |
