DS and several of his high school friends quit club soccer and did rec a few years ago. Drove themselves to crappy grass fields for practice and had a blast. |
When I finally dropped travel/club soccer after many years and many injuries, I did a couple years of rec. It was fun to support a team where everyone was looking to you to pull them out of a bind, or help direct the game. It was a great way to release stress after years of non-stop high-tension soccer. |

I'm quitting
The kid better figure something out |
I love this. My kid likes his coach and his team (not super competitive). So he will probably stick around. But I wish he would find some kids he likes who are interested in putting together a fun rec team. |
I just want to say that I see you and I am sorry. Same thing happened to us. It happened to a lot of kids, unfortunately. The clubs were not honest about the process, did not keep their commitment (and before some smug person comes in her to chide me - I know, I get it, they do that, but it’s still sad to see a bunch of kids displaced with very little notice). |
Obnoxious humble brag. |
| How are kids left without a club/home at this time of year? Bumped from top team and don’t want to tryout for lower team or other clubs? All the players and coach leaving? Seems there would be options now during tryout season |

Whats the brag? They bout to spend 5 figures next season on travel soccer for a 12 year old? |

Yes, my kid is finally quitting. She is now in HS and found joy playing other sports on her HS teams. Due to the conflict with Fall/Spring sports practice at her HS with the club soccer schedule, we opted to drop soccer and focus on the HS sports. She said that there is significantly more camaraderie and bonding with the girls on her HS teams than travel, which was a major factor. The club girls are nice but they do not get together outside of practice and are in different schools.
She's in 9th but looking ahead to 10th/11th, I'd like for her to have more time for homework and college apps instead of stressing about travel soccer. She was ECNL-R. |
When did kids who play Travel stop socializing with friends at school and in their neighborhood? Doesn't the HS sports also have practice and games both home and away? |
So your son HASN'T quit yet... why are you on the thread with unhelpful answers? What options do you recommend after quitting? My kid quit and moved to SFL (top rec) and competes with the same Clubs as Travel and has ran into old friends from Travel too. He enjoys the freedom rec provides. |
What do you mean be the freedom rec provides? |
We found HS soccer to be way more time demanding and the impediment to studies, not club. My player is staying in club, and may decide to pass on HS. |
