| Nope for same reasons pro boxers don’t agree to random bar fights with people out to prove how much of a better fighter they are. |
Good luck finding rec players that want that. My kid dropped travel soccer because club lacrosse is their priority. They still like soccer, so they play rec. We don't want to travel to Winchester or Fredericksburg to play soccer anymore. Some games, his team was 19 players and other games 11. They played one game with 10 because of a middle school track meet. My kid was one of the ones who played and they all loved it. Every family on the team that we've spoken with has chosen rec because it's low key. We don't want travel, we want lo key and local |
This is the stupidest idea I have ever read on here. Rec teams don't want to pay for the "privilege" of a one off game against some low level travel team. No one cares. |
Our club was winter friendlies with rec and travel teams. The top travel teams always win. The best rec teams beat the worst travel teams. The closest games are between the mid travel teams and the worst rec teams |
- mid rec and worst travel |
| Rec teams can play on travel teams, they just need to take their team to a club where they can bolt on. But to other than that, it's a dumb idea. |
Exactly. That is the point. |
| Wouldn't this be the point of tournaments if a rec team wanted to play against different competition? No need to make this a regular season "thing." |
Rec teams don't have player cards which precludes most tournaments |
| Now that everyone is unhappy, it’s settled. NCSL will have rec top divisional winners promoted into travel divisions and the bottom travel teams relegated into the rec divisions. |
| This makes absolutely no sense. If "top rec players want to see how far they can go", they should join a travel team, or at least try out for one. There is a vastly different mind set between rec and travel, not to mention the money. How much more would you like to pay? Are these rec teams going to drive an hour or more for a game? There may be some top rec teams that could beat a bottom travel team, but those are loosely defined descriptions. |
I think the vast majority of rec parents don't want to see how far their kid's team can go. My kid plays rec soccer because I'm only willing to pay for one travel sport at a time and I'm not willing to drive an hour for a soccer game. The parents on our team would forgo driving to some far flung field for a single game. When it looked like we might be going to Fredericksburg, the plan was to do the team party that day and forfeit. |
Curious if anyone knows how many, if ant, Fredericksburg games were won by forfeit? |
Yeah, these rec teams are throwing a fit about having to drive to Fredericksburg. Then they want the privilege of beating up a bottom tier travel team for a fraction of the cost. Grow a pair and tryout for a travel team if you are anxious to see how your DC would do. I agree there are some solid rec players... they should test their skills against travel players. And there is no better place than a travel tryout... it's free and definitely measures the kids skills against one another. |

Our org got all the fredericksburg games switched, except one, and that team is forfeiting rather than drive down.
I heard that teams were showing up in fredericksburg with just 6 or so players so the FFC teams were winning by wide margins. Crappy season for then-they only got 7 games and their home games weren't real games. |
