From CWG:
Quick aurora update. - 1030p Saturday night.. Geomagnetic storm activity not as strong as last night but some aurora showing up in Michigan. *Chance* things pick up markedly pre-dawn & northern lights spread south. Might be worth setting alarm for 4a or so (Sunday) in DC area and checking skies. No one knows for sure how strong geomagnetic storm activity will be overnight & timing is uncertain but modeling suggests increase toward morning. Clouds other wildcard. Probably partly to mostly cloudy but maybe enough breaks to see auroras if they materialize. Are you setting your alarm? |
| Any hope for later tonight in NoVA? 12:24 am now. |
| I can kind of imagine a hint of green in the northern sky but it's pretty cloudy |
| Nothing today it seems in Va |
We drove last night to Charlottesville to watch it. |
| Supposed to be stronger tonight (Sunday PM-Monday AM). Hopefully these storms clear out! The weather has been sh#t. |
|
I woke up around 3 am so I checked my northern lights app and it said 0% chance and heavy cloud cover.
Sad. But also, whew, becuase I would have been tempted to jump in the car if there was a good chance. |
I was driving back at 3am. The weather sucked big time. |
Were you able to see anything? |
| I got up at 4:15 to check and it was all clouds. Later this morning I saw great pictures from a few blocks away 30 minutes later! Oh, well🤷🏻♀️😀 |
