Democrats would rather protect Hansjörg Wyss than get Joe Biden on the statewide ballot,” Mr. LaRose, the Ohio secretary of state, who first warned Democrats of the deadline issue, said in a statement on Thursday.

Republicans in the Ohio Senate advanced a bill on Wednesday that would resolve the issue but attached a rider that would ban foreign money in state ballot initiatives, over the objections of Senate Democrats. The House speaker, Jason Stephens, who is fending off a monthslong effort by some Republicans to oust him and needs support from Democratic lawmakers in the minority to stay in power, did not take up the measure, and the legislature adjourned with no solution in place.

Charles Lutvak, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, said that Mr. Biden would be on the ballot in all 50 states.

At the heart of the issue is a partisan fight over donations by foreign nationals in support of ballot initiatives in Ohio, which Republicans in the state blamed for the passage last year of a constitutional amendment enshrining access to abortion in the state. Hansjörg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire, is a major donor to one of the progressive groups that campaigned in Ohio in support of the measure, and Republicans supporting the measure have repeatedly singled out Mr. Wyss as a target of the ban.

The billionaire in question lives in Wyoming .
It’s fine for republicans to funnel dark Russian money through to their campaigns. It’s great when billionaires from Indiana flood Ohio with money to enshrine Christian fascism.
But god forbid democrats have some money to fight back.
Biden will get on the ballot.
And to all the morons on this thread advocating for democrats to pull out of the state…
Sherrod Brown is up for reelection.
If you don’t know anything about politics, why are you posting?

It is ok to be upset that you were called out, it hurts, I get it.

And I should not have to explain the difference between the US citizens of Indiana giving funds versus a foreign national giving funds to federal and state elections.

Just admit that democrats love, love, love foreign interference with elections if it suits them. See the Steele dossier.

I'll let you get back to your Russian conspiracy theories.

I get it. You’re big mad that you got your teeth kicked in last fall TWICE.
But go ahead keep Biden off the ballot.
Tell Ohioans they can’t have choice. PLEASE DO IT!
That worked out great for you last time! 👍

Do libs have any self-awareness? You literally tried to pass bogus laws in multiple states to keep Trump off of the ballot until the SCOTUS unanimously said no. Lord have mercy you people are dense.

1) no one passed bogus laws
2) the GOP filed in Colorado to bar Trump from the ballot, and lost in the Supreme Court.

Other than that, your post is fully accurate.

The best part: "Since Ohio changed its certification deadline from 60 to 90 days ahead of the general election, state lawmakers have had to adjust the requirement twice, in 2012 and 2020, to accommodate candidates of both parties. Each change was only temporary."

That’s a crude way of saying that Ohio has become reliably red. Bye bye Sen Brown.

I think the presidential election being uncontested in Ohio would help down ballot democrats.

No they really don't. You think for a second if New York or California had the same rules in place they would bend them for Trump?

Somebody needs to do a similar investigation of Ohio.

Ahh the GOP’s inverted belief system, always accusing others of what they themselves are doing.

You are wrong. NY and CA wouldn’t have a stupid law that ignores the history of national party conventions in August. Ohio Republicans are being idiots.

Biden is now being officially nominated via a virtual roll call ahead of Ohio’s artificially imposed deadline.

Of course Democrats are smart not to rely on Ohio Republicans playing fairly.

My theory is that Ohio Republicans wanted a pretextual reason to curtail early voting in Ohio, which is quite popular. But they didn’t want the political blowback.

I agree the DNC failed here. How hard was it to read a calendar? UGH

That said anyone who votes for Trump is voting for Hitler and is UnAmerican to the core.

Ohio ignored them 4 years ago when the RNC went second, as is the norm.

So why aren't they ignoring it now?

To own the libs.

The DNC didn't fail.

It is the norm for the incumbent party to go second.

Ohio changed it up. Not the DNC fault.
