We didn’t put the kids on swim team. Only started in 2020 and was able to keep doing it up until now when every company suddenly mandated RTO. So likely will not be able to continue. Sad for us and the kids. |
Our team hasn't seen a bump in registrations since 2020. If anything it has remained flat or even dropped a bit. |
Our A Rep is a puppet with no ability to do anything except attend rep meetings. The board controls everything. Votes in every minuscule aspect of the team. I feel sorry for them. They had no idea what they were getting into or signing up for. No ability to make the season theirs. |
Sounds like ours. Who has time to micromanage everything! |
Honestly, I am just not into it this year and having a hard time getting the things I need to get done done. Season hasn't even started and I feel burnt out and over the parents who complain about things. |
This is why our pool rotates reps every few years. We have essentially a deputy team rep who learns the ropes and then takes over the next year and so on. People serve 2-4yrs in the role including their time as deputy. It can be a fun but also frustrating and exhausting role. |
I’m on a swim and tennis club board. We get a report from the team rep (who is also a board member) at our monthly meeting. It might be a minute long report followed by a question or two at most (usually there are none) and we move on. Luckily I haven’t experienced much drama. |
I feel sorry for our A rep. They are being micromanaged by a bunch of idiots not letting them be a rep. If you want to do it so badly, why don’t you be the rep. But NO, they just want to push the rep around and make decisions for them. |
What is it? |
In the NVSL, all teams have one or more “reps” whose job is to be the liaison between the league and the team. They run all NVSL meets for their team in accordance with all NVSL processes and procedures. In most instances I’ve seen, this role has also expanded to include managing and coordinating the entire summer swim team season for a pool, not just A meets and other NVSL events. Depending on how the pool itself is run, the board might also have varying levels of involvement, but the reps are basically the people that volunteer to run the swim team for a pool. |
They run the team. In addition to being liaison for the team to the league. So they hire coaches and set pay. They deal with the registration and practices. In our case they ask for the use of the pool. They run point for issues with kids or parents. Our coaches just coach. When there is a problem they tell the rep and the rep handles it. If a parent has an issue the rep handles it. It is a year long job for our team because we have a winter swim program that runs several days a week. We have 200 swimmers. So it is significant. |
For NVSL they also have final say on seeding. |
This!! |
They can give input for the NVSL to consider, but no final say. |
+1 This is what our rep does. Coach works with swimmers. Reps deal with parents and issues not related to swimming technique, etc |
