Goodness. They are our ally - why bring Japan into a conversation about immigration??! He doesn't have enough problems to deal with on the PR front with Gaza/Israel and Ukraine and our economy??!

For all you folks who keep talking about how we must vote for Biden cause Trump is the Devil... well I agree Trump is far from ideal but seriously. There have got to be standards and those who know better need to be held accountable to do better. Biden is a train wreck every bit as Trump, just in a different way. Both of them will sink this country into a gigantic hole. Just in different ways!

The fact that people are OK with Biden SIMPLY because he isn't Trump is why we have this mediocrity playing out in our government. Want better, expect better, demand better. I actually am angrier at Biden v Trump, because Trump simply does not know better and he's at least true to himself. The whole argument that there are only 2 candidates and you must support and love one of them is a loser one. This is why the Democrats have problems. Their entire platform rests on don't vote for bad guy Trump. Well, I'm not voting for a good guy if I vote Biden!!! So for all those who don't see Trump as evil, Biden surely isn't going to benefit because he's proven incompetence and he hasn't done anything that's impressed me beyond taking away student debt which sorry, truly does not help me one bit! If Biden loses, he totally deserves it. We all lose too.

Vote for the guy who said we need to restrict immigration from “shthole” countries. That will do wonders for our international relations.

They pretty much own it at this point.

No, no no no nonononono you don’t understand. This is the most egregious thing an American President has EVER said of our allies, don’t you get that? Didn’t you get your orders to say so? Even though Japan knows it hates immigrants and has built a society on a monoculture? This is OBVIOUSLY senility and dementia to mention Japan as one of three nations, along with Russia and China, whose economies would be doing better if they allowed freer immigration. That kind of nuance and common sense observation is only found among the people who slur their words like “fake infrastrucker, ershure para.”

I have spent a lot of time in Japan.
Yes, Japan is in a time of sleepy contraction.
I can understand why many Japanese would rather have that kind of relative peace, safety, and cultural cohesion than the mess we have here. In the U.S. need to slow down our immigration because the current rates are causing instability. Our duty to refugees is why it is even more important to have policies that are more restrictive overall: so that we can continue to absorb TRUE refugees without causing instability.

Besides, economic policy that requires population growth to be successful is not sustainable. Even more, Americans consume more and cause more pollution than most any other countries. Why would we want more of them?

Japan’s population challenges now are also an incredible opportunity for positive change.

Biden has flaws and weaknesses that are undeniable and he shouldn't be POTUS until 2029 in any normal circumstance but your comment about him being a train wreck on Trump's level is absurd. Trump has clearly shown us that he doesn't have the integrity to perform the job of Commander-in-Chief in a moment when our country needs it's leader to take action immediately. He should never hold a public office position again. Integrity is more important than policy.

Biden proved that his first months in office with the Afghanistan withdrawal.
And, he has done nothing since that proves he is up for the job. Nothing.

Interesting Biden points to immigration as one of our strengths, but doesn't distinguish between legal and illegal immigration. I often wonder why a million green cards issued each year isn't enough.

And here, in his speech, he's drawing a clear distinction between his and Trump's views on immigration.

Fair enough, the voters will decide which view we prefer in November.

It's not even a close contest. And, polling data proves that.

We have to think long term. Short term victories come from legal immigrants and also undocumented immigrants in the first and later generations. They reproduce at an exponential rate compared to Americans who have lived here for generations. It ensures we have a strong progressive voter base.

It also ensures we have newcomers who will fill roles and take jobs which citizens will typically not do. We need this now more than ever. So many lazy Americans are choosing not to work, on disability, etc.

The newcomers may not be the best educated from their home countries but they fill a need for our nation and its future.

Saying the quiet part out loud.......

You and PP will be surprised that the masses imported from Catholic countries (or Muslim ones) may not in fact agree with your progressive agenda. Even second and third generation raised by their immigrant parents and grandparents in their cultural values will not go along with a lot of what the democratic party supports. Wanting to escape poverty =\= support of the progressive agenda. Have you all even visited some of these countries? Talked to anyone from them? If you think most places outside the west agree with the progressive platform, you are mistaken.

I never understood why this was such a controversial statement. People arent fleeing from these countries because they're considered paradise. They are coming with horrific stories about conditions in these countries. The place being unliveable is literally the basis for which they are granted asylum.

US allies criticize the US all the time. Turn about is fair play.

I have no argument for why Biden should be president going forward and I certainly disagree with much of his foreign and domestic policies and decisions. What Biden hasn't done is sit in The White House watching TV for over 2 hours while ignoring pleas for help from his close inner circle and doing absolutely nothing while a mob of hundreds breached security at the United States Capitol! United States Capitol I said! Trump did that. Disqualified permanently. How can any true American with at least half a brain not feel the same way? Seriously, what is wrong with you people that don't see this clearly? Many of you are otherwise intelligent and decent people. That happened on January 6th, 2021. Texts, tweets, emails and first hand testimony while under oath by his staff and family members confirmed what he did that day. Nothing that happened before or after that moment matters in determining whether or not he is fit to be POTUS. That was the defining moment of his failed presidency. In a world where our adversaries are becoming our enemies, I do trust a deteriorating and unpopular Biden more than I trust Trump.

Biden. Trashing our friends and collecting checks from our enemies, via his crackhead son. What a guy.

Extremely poor judgment. We need Japan - both as a customer for U.S. products and services, as well as a Pacific ally as a bulwark against Chinese aggression.

Biden is also wrong.
