Yes, and one other tip - buy sharpened pencils. They cost a little more, but having them saves a line at the sharpener, which eats up class time.

Do older ES students use different kind of pencils than those in younger grades? Such as Mechanical pencils which then means buying the lead to place in pencils?

My older elementary and middle school kids use regular pencils, and that’s what the teachers also seem to have on their classrooms. I think kids only use mechanical pencils if it’s the individual kid’s/family’s preference.

You should be supplying your kids with pencils, not the teacher.

Having extra pencils on hand keeps class flowing when kids inevitably don't have one.

Or just do more work on Chromebooks!

Should not use Chromebooks other than for testing. Testing on screen, for this generation anyways, seems easier than filling in those tiny bubbles with a #2.

Our PTA is doing a bunch of stuff (lunch, etc.). They also sent out a list of teachers favorite treats you are encouraged to send in, but DC's teacher only listed fudgsicles. So, I think I'll just send a gift card.

Middle school teacher here- this is the move; a nice (specific) note and CCing admin. They often don’t know what we do or see behind the scenes.

Current administrator and former classroom teacher. I always loved notes from my families over a mug or candle. It was also a nice gesture when they would email the principal on my behalf. I get several emails from families each June about how wonderful the year was with Ms/Mr. Smith. I know it goes a long way in filling a teacher's bucket. As others have said, things are definitely rough right now and teachers need all the encouragement that they can get these days.

I love how our school administration and PTA collaborate for the upcoming staff appreciation week to make sure we get something nice/fun every day. It's been this way for years and always received well.

Honestly teacher appreciation week always felt like too little too late. A show to help keep teachers from resigning or not returning next year. It's also funny to me how nursing the other big pink collar career has their week around the same time. It's like an annual "gaslight the women" week.
