Unpopular Opinion: Jack Berger was Carries best boyfriend

Anonymous
I loved Aiden but he was really too good for her.

Berger was an intellectual match but the jealousy would've been too much.

Big and Patrovsky were narcissists.

I really liked the Justin Theroux character for her, too bad about his PE.

So Gen Z has discovered SATC since it’s on Netflix now and has determined that Ben from Season 2 was Carrie’s best boyfriend. And he looks amazing now!

Vaughn…any character played by a guy who can keep an acting career going while also being Prime Minister of Canada has to be something special.

How old was she when she finally married Big?

In NYC, age, looks, wealth, and pedigree matter if you want to land a decent husband.

Who wants to marry the old party girl who prioritizes fashion/shoes and Brunching with besties over either career/wealth or family?

I’m failing to see what Carrie brought to any relationship aside from self-centeredness and debt.

This sentence impressively exemplifies so much that is wrong with how people think.

1. NYC is full of a lot of different kinds of people and not all of them care about wealth and pedigree, whatever that is.
2. What exactly is a "decent husband" in this context? Does it have ANYTHING to do at all with actual love or compatibility?

How warped is your world if you think he was her best match...

This is an absolutely wild take. He was insecure, jealous, and hung up on his ex. Plus, the way he dumped her was so juvenile! He definitely was sexy other than those icky personality traits, though.

OMG for those of you on Threads, someone posted that Berger was even worse on rewatch. One of the replies was from TV writer Gennefer Gross, who says “He was the only boyfriend of hers that was grounded like he existed in the real world. MPK wrote him to be her intellectual equal, which is why they had such great banter at the start. It was bad timing with him losing his book deal while Carrie was getting a huge advance (and had just belittled his character choice that he could do nothing about post-publishing). Still, he tried to get past it and even playfully wore a scrunchie. David & I wrote the spin-off that was sooo close to getting made.”

The gist of the spin-off: “Ten years after leaving Carrie, Jack Berger’s semi-autobiographical book, “Sticky Note,” has landed him on the New York Times bestseller list and given him success he wasn’t expecting or ready for. He tries to balance the pressure of a follow-up and staying true to himself, all the while, hoping to find the relationship that won’t end on a bad note.”
