Unpopular Opinion: Jack Berger was Carries best boyfriend

Big was no good. Petro was no good. Berger just seemed immature.

This is an interesting read, I'd forgotten most of these men:

What a trip down memory lane that was! Bradley Cooper, Vince Vaughn, Timothy Olyphant, Jon Bon Jovi, David Duchovny, Justin Theroux, John Slattery, and the list goes on and on . . .

Loved Ben! Carrie messed it up.,
Why isn’t Gabriel macht included? Wasn’t that the first episode?

Thank you for reminding me of this, I actually felt sick watching those ones as a teen because I wanted Berger so bad. That actor is still on my top 10 list.

Yup, he was only a friend of Carrie’s, she didn’t date or sleep with him

Op here. Petrovsky was incredibly manipulative and self centered. He was also realistic, in a way. Relationship is all about him, what he wants to take from it, and only as much as he’s willing to give to it. He was also a gaslighter - “I told you this was me all along” type thing, when he coerced Carrie to give up her life in NY to be his groupie in Paris. He was so ick. My least favorite of carries boyfriends.

Another poster is right that Carrie does have terrible taste in men. I still like Berger best.

To be fair though Carrie ruined her own trip to Paris. Life is not a romantic movie. She needed to get out there and see Paris herself and then travel to other countries while on petrovsky’s dime. Don’t sit and fking sulk like a child because he was busy working. That was the golden ticket opportunity for her to grow and a charmed life for awhile and she blew it.

In the real world, it’s doubtful that anyone would have married Carrie.

How old was she when she finally married Big?

In NYC, age, looks, wealth, and pedigree matter if you want to land a decent husband.

Who wants to marry the old party girl who prioritizes fashion/shoes and Brunching with besties over either career/wealth or family?

I’m failing to see what Carrie brought to any relationship aside from self-centeredness and debt.

Berger?? Noooooo!!
1) He broke up with Carrie on a Post It note. Coward.
2) Didn’t his home answering machine still include his previous girlfriend? Something like, “You have reached the Jack and X, leave a message.”

And, 3) He was jealous over Carrie’s book deal.

But wasn't Berger a more serious writer who was disgusted by Carrie's shallow sex & dating columns were compiled into a book for dimwits? You could kind of see his point even though he was so childish about the whole thing.

Still, Ron Livingston was hot then and still-hot now.

Aiden was the *best* guy she dated but Big was her match because she wanted to be taken care of to a certain extent even if she did work. She racked up god knows how much debt in clothes/shoes/bags and wanted the fancy penthouse. She wasn’t getting that with anyone but Big.

I never thought about it like this but it actually makes a lot of sense.

OP --

Yes he was the best. Carrie only had chemistry with him and with Big.
