It's always fun seeing the bigots come out of the woodwork in posts like these.
Why is Christmas a federal holiday though, if we have separation of church and state? Maybe we should remove the fed holiday status then Many of ya'll are really ignorant when it comes to the demographics of school's staff, which include a lot of Muslims. Maybe not as classroom teachers, but in SPED, assistants, cafeteria staff, bus drivers, janitorial staff, etc. Function would be massively challenged if Eid were a regular school day. It's not just about the students and having an excused absence - it's about day to day school operations being able to function with so many staff being forced to take leave for a major holiday that, for some biased reason, was not declared a federal holiday. |
Again, we did fine for years without having Eid off. |
Says who? Are you APS in-school staff? |
Why couldn’t today be a grading day? |
Because school is not daycare. |
You're fine with accommodations due to staffing issues because of people observing their religious holidays, but not closing school for religious holidays because of staffing issues from people observing their religious holidays. Got it. |
Huh? Grading days are non-school days. I think PP was suggesting making today a grading day because it's already a school holiday, instead of having today and yet another day off on Monday. |
Yes, and I used to work at a school with a large Muslim population (staff and students) It never caused any critical staffing issues, no worse than an average Friday |
Don't bother with the one trick pony. School is not daycare is the extent of their vocabulary. |
This bs is why I’m voting for Trump |
Why is Christmas a federal holiday and Eid is not? I don’t know- take it up with Congress. It’d be a lot easier to review if these religious closures were operationally appropriate, but APS refuses to collect that information. From where I sit, they are violating church and state left and right picking winners and losers based on feelings. It’s not a matter of “bigotry” but compliance with the First Amendment. |
School in session - School out of session. Same result w/APS. |
Federal holiday Christmas is not religious, it's all the fun Pagan stuff plus excessive consumerism. Does Eid encourage non-religious families to whip out credit cards in Tysons? No, because Eid is only a religious holiday and was added to the school calendar to force it on everyone else, or to satisfy that Arlington urge to virtue signal. |
Yes, of course we should get rid of Christmas too. All or nothing. I vote nothing. |
+1 Agree on one fixed week. It’s stupid how much it fluctuates each year. |
